OP mentioned that the coffe shop show was staffed with 17-20 years olds. They don’t need to earn 20 bucks per hour, they don’t need to be able to afford mortgage, or even rent apartment by themselves (they can have roommates). No one would work such job their whole life anyway. It’s temporary almost by definition

Man, I have a similar problem whenever I visit my parents: my mother is after a heart attack, her blood flow is impaired so she's always cold, even when there's like 27 Celsius degrees in the room. The first thing I do when I the house is to shut down the heater in my bedroom. The whole house feels like a sauna.

Of course having more effective insulation is a good thing, but that's not the case we're talking about here: were talking about "staying at reasonable temperatures" thanks to your neighbors.

But that's not what's happening here, we're talking about maintaining pretty comfortable temperature at the expense of neighbors.

>> stays warm thanks to the neighbors below me heating their apartment.

So you're basically stealing the heat from your neighbors :) You can see how that strategy falls apart if everyone starts doing it?

>> Higher latitudes, excluding inside the polar vortex, tends to have larger amount of wind in the winter.

"Larger amount of wind" still means at most 3-4 days of decent wind per month, that has been my experience living in Poland. There are some windy regions like the Baltic Sea coast, or Tatra mountains in the south, but that's still not enough.

That's not what this statistic means. It means that if you spent 0 dollars and saved all your income you would need 7.27 years to buy a house. In practice you need a mortgage, of course. But now think how bad this gets when a house price is your 40 years worth of income...

Century ago United States tried to ban alcohol, and it simply didn't work - it is way too easy to produce it from innocent food products. Exotic mushrooms or artificial drugs are much easier to ban.
