When using an AI, it's not unusual to have to tinker a bit to get exactly what you want from it. Today, DALL-E cost 15$ to use it 115 times, but 90% of the time you don't really get good images, or necessarily exactly what you want. it means that you're actually paying 15$ for 10 or something image that are actually what you wanted.
I don't want to pay 15$ for 200 message on chatGPT and having to spend time to think about what i'm going to write because i'm afraid of wasting my credit. I might as well spend time thinking about doing the thing myself.
I do, because I don't see why it wouldn't be. If it's revolutionary and a lot of people need it, or if it change completely the way people work/live/are entertained, it will certainly evolve to be as much accessible as possible. A succesful product is a product used by many.
being afraid is the best way to run away from what's coming. If a computer can easily do some work, simply use that work to your advantage, and do something more complicated. If a computer can generate art, use what's generated to your advantage and do something better.
As long as the world is not entirely made of AI, there will always be some expertise to add, so instead of being afraid, you should just evolve with your time

This is really interesting to compare both general opinion on HN and on this subreddit.
On HN, a place probably filled with technical guys, people are generaly putting themselves in dev shoes. They are accusing the author of feeling entitled to more money because he felt like he was part of the team and that he think his work is equaly important as the work of everyone else. Devs being devs generaly know that coding is hard and long, and generaly don't know if writing a poem is difficult or not.
On the subreddit, a place probably filled with long time minecraft player, people are putting themselves in the artist shoes. They support the author and are thanking him for creating one of the key moment during a minecraft game : the end.
Rationality versus Emotion. Who is right, who is wrong ? Is anyone right ? Maybe both side are blinded by their beliefs ?
If you click on the "x" on a open tab, it will most likely close it.
If you click on the "x" on your browser, it will close the browser, maybe will it alert you that you're going to close many things.
Open Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Word, Notepad, your Windows file explorer, same thing.
Those are probably the most used app in the world, so people will assume that it is what the "x" button does.
Tech companies aren't your friends, they only want your money.
What baffles me is people being outraged by this fine like they needed to pay that, not a billion dollar tech company.
It is justified because what Discord didn't implement can harm the user. it can harm YOU.
People easily forget that Internet is for everyone. Even for people that didn't grew with a computer, even for people that are not developer.
it's not so simple as "disliking the UI", it's about the UI/UX being clear enough that the user understand what he is doing in order to not be harmed by it in any way (disclosing personnal information for instance).
Simply imagine that the user thought that, by clicking the "X" button, he closed the app and got off the vocal channel so that now nobody can hear him. Now a close relative ask him some other personnal info that he don't want to share (Health info, credit card etc..), and other people in the vocal channel hear it. Well, the user has been harmed.
So yeah, not about "disliking the UI" but about protecting you, the user
From the perspective of a french dude, 90k£ is something like 101k€, which is an INSANELY good salary.
For comparison, i'm actually paid 25k€ with 2 year of experience (Junior software developper), and a really good salary in this field in France is something around 48k€
Last point, the minimum salary in France is 1.5k€ per month, around 18k€
I believe it widely change depending on the country.
