You're flying the plane until it has stopped moving.

Every last piece of it.

or:

You're flying the plane until you take the key out of the ignition.

Doesn't matter how deep a hole you need to dig to get it.

> I got my PPL in EU and here it was drilled into me that in Europe there can be exactly ONE plane cleared to use a runway at any time.

* ONE vehicle of any kind!

You can't use the runway because there's a bloody great Volvo in the middle of it, because I put the bloody great Volvo there, because I'm picking up bits of the last guy's wheel spat that fell off, because I don't want to have to write a long long tale about how your prop got chipped.

True story.

> Have the courage to not take off.

As the old old saying goes, better to be down here wishing you were up there than up there wishing you were down here.

Let me present a great counterexample - Adobe want a monthly subscription for Premiere that's about 40 quid a month.

DaVinci Resolve has a free-as-in-beer and a paid-for version. It works equally well (modulo some codec licensing) on Windows, Linux, and Mac OSX. If you go with the Free version, you get a maximum of 2160-height timelines (so 4k landscape video or if you want your Tiktoks in high def, 2k portrait) and you don't get the neural network filtering, denoising, and certain fancy effects (film simulation and so on).

If you want to pay for it, it's (currently) about 300 quid, forever. If you bought a key way back in the early days it'll still work in current (18.1.1 at the time of posting this).

This is serious high-end editing, colour grading, and compositing software, at that, it's not iMovie. Things like Midsommar were cut on it. It appears to be the weapon of choice within Netflix.

You can download it for free, stick it on a potato PC with 16GB of RAM and a GT1030, and expect it to at least work, if slowly.

No subscriptions, ever.

That'll be why it's all people half my age (I'm about 50) who are terrified of driving at night because they can't see properly, and I (and people my age) can read the number the guy in the car in front is calling on his phone, then.

That's not actually true.

Although it's bizarre because in the US 70-year-olds seem incredibly frail compared to 70-year-olds anywhere else.

> It doesn't even have anti-lock brakes

It doesn't go fast enough for them to work.

My old Citroën AX weighed about 650kg. I used to park it in spaces about 6" longer than the car by getting the nose in as close to the kerb as I could, leaving it out of gear, and then getting out, picking it up by the back bumper like a big wheelbarrow, and bouncing it sideways into the space.

> If you just want to top up the 30-40 miles that are driven in a day, then 10-12 hours overnight is fine with a regular plug.

Okay, but you probably live in a city in the US, where you don't really drive.

I live in Scotland, and I use my vehicle for work. I don't think I've done less than 100 miles any time I've put the keys in the ignition in years, and quite often I fill the tank a couple of times a day (dual-fuel LPG and petrol) or just burn the dirty stuff.

I don't really "get" what Teslas are for. I don't need something that can accelerate to 60mph faster than if it had been thrown off a cliff - I can't imagine why you'd ever need to accelerate to 60mph flat out - and I don't really have a use for something that'll get me to work and then need charged for three days. Also given that with the cost of electricity and the cost of propane the way it is, it's actually cheaper to drive a V8 Range Rover than a Telsa, I'm just not convinced.

Given that you can kill all the occupants of an American SUV by getting a fat person to take a good run up and kick the bumper hard, I'd say yes.

At anything above a walking pace shunt in a typical Yank Tank, your insides are mush.

They're not doing "momentarily unpopular things", they are deliberately destroying the country to make themselves a bit of cash.

Conservatives are all - without exception - junkies. Addicts. Criminal junkie addicts, who will steal all they can to sell off for a bit of cash for their fix, although in this case the fix is the cash.

Tony Blair needs a brief visit to The Hague followed by an even shorter visit to a firing squad.

So I should be tolerant of the people that have killed a couple of million people and destroyed the country?

At what point is it okay to no longer be tolerant of them?

Also, if you look at Scotland, we've had Nicola Sturgeon as First Minister for six years or so now (in which time she's seen four Tory PMs come and go), and she is so popular in the last-but-one Scottish Parliament elections her party got an overall majority, in a voting system designed to prevent any one party getting an overall majority.

It's an extremely biased opinion, and I make no apologies.

I think every single living member of every Tory cabinet present and past should be strung up in Parliament Square. I'm not in any sense unclear about my views on them.

We have had twelve years of disastrous Tory austerity that has comprehensively destroyed the UK's economy. What's the plan? Let them keep trying until they get something right? How long is it supposed to take for their austerity policies to work, to get the economy back to a sensible state?

We've had two female Prime Ministers before her, one of whom was quite successful as a politician (bloody awful for the country though).

It wasn't sexism, she is genuinely completely useless. Fractally shitty, in that if you examine any part of her stint in politics it is every bit as shitty and inept as the whole.

This will be the fourth unelected PM in six years (okay, Boris Johnson did actually win a GE after being foisted upon us, if you think that counts).

It's time for an early General Election. This lot need to go. Every trace of the Tories must be obliterated.

The hilarious part is, the way that polling stands right now, a General Election would result in a strong Labour majority with the Scottish National Party in opposition, the Lib Dems third, and the Conservatives a distant fourth :-D
