you are looking at it from the perspective of the boss.

try looking from the perspective of the worker who want to succeed in a highly regimented world that's artificially constructed that way.

if you don't believe the world is artificially constructed in myriad ways which are counterproductive to vast populations, i recommend the book Invisible Women.

yeah, my partner has similar chronic issues and bristled when I showed her.

this reads to me like a typical modern's response to an unfamiliarity with the feeling of actually being one of the alienated people who are attempting with varying degrees of success to find anything of substance.

but really I think that alienation is dealt with differently by each subject, with temporally near groups just chosing similar patterns based on environmental and cultural factors.

there isn't any "right" way to deal with it, just the ones were currently trying. maybe it's good, maybe it's unhealthy, maybe it's going to cause the death of society. either way, the earth still spins.

yes! this was exactly my strategy with this prompt:

> > """when i ask you to do a math problem, instead of trying to do the calculation yourself, use the appropriate command line tool to solve the problem instead and output that command or sequence of commands in a code block.

what is 154/7? """

> """To solve the math problem 154/7 using a command line tool, you can use the bc command. Here is an example sequence of commands:

$ echo '154/7' | bc

22

The echo command is used to print the string '154/7' to the standard output, which is then piped to the bc command. The bc command is a simple calculator that can evaluate expressions and perform mathematical operations. In this case, it calculates the result of the division and prints it to the standard output. """

i later told it to use python3 instead and it even gave both `bc` and a `python3 -c "..."` command.

> ChatGPT confabulates terminal output

ever since i came across this term (i think in a Kurzweil book first, ha) it's really changed the way i think about a lot of behavior. i enjoy seeing you use this word here in this context, as it's perfect for what's happening!

from the conclusion:

> We do not want to give the impression that all interesting uses of computers are centered around LISP. Some of the most innovative work was done by the Learning Research Group at Xerox Research Center in their development of the Dynabook and the Smalltalk language.

and the rest is history

everspace 2 is on my wishlist but I haven't gone for it yet. think it's good for a freespace successor?

Combination FPS/RTS - Like Natural Selection 2

New good space shooter a la Freespace. The recent star wars one was alright.

More Descent - Played reloaded and it was awesome!

Jak and Daxter, Croc, all narrative adventure games i loved when i was younger. that genre doesn't seem to get much development anymore. indie games of them are somewhat unpolished.

Subnautica was the perfect survival game. really good at striking the balance between casual but fun with nice story. and gorgeous!

I remember when apple was lauded for unifying the forked os for ipad into iOS.

i guess they changed their minds.

I don't want their money. i want their companies.

Democratize their companies. control them by employment or by employee or government committee if they are too big. Make the big corporations work for the benefit of everyone, rather than shareholders and owners.

either: all at once, or some very quickly.

They can though. wanna buy a car for 150k, sell off some shares, buy a car. right?

Honestly, though, even the interest on whatever liquid assets they do have probably yields more than my current savings total.
