It has its uses I guess, but it requires opt-in which is a pretty big disadvantage, and then still can't do even a fraction of what SELinux can already do. SELinux isn't that hard to learn, and the security benefits are immense.

If Theo stopped being so resistant to solutions like AppArmor, then OpenBSD could have a real security layer instead of toys like unveil and pledge.

> And every time you upgrade to the next major release, you start again from square one because the requirements of your software have changed.

Nah. That's a huge exaggeration. Most software doesn't change its base behavior like that and certainly not with every new release, and certainly browsers don't.

Pros: More of the software has been audited. That's it really. There's nice documentation but that's true for many linux distros as well, and much of the security claims are overblown.

Cons: Lack of available software and software compatibility. Lack of good security options to restrict software and the system.

It's not a stretch at all. They are well aware of the weird culty green bubble clique attitudes. And there are plenty of things they could do to allow imessage on Android. And even if they still didn't want to do that, they didn't need to choose an entirely different color for non imessage messages, they could be more subtle in alerting iphone users the other person in the convo has less features available to them. Much of the time it isn't even relevant.

As long as Apple keeps encouraging their users to be shitty to Android users, I'd say it's important.

Sure, but if Beeper keeps working, likely some free alternative isn't far behind, and if that means your messages don't come up as blue, that will be everyone's preference.

DMCA allows reverse engineering for interoperability. I'd say it's relevant.

No, we mean cutting out that blue/green bubble shit to drive wedges between users.

Apple's RCS implementation is meaningless unless they cut out the blue/green bubble shit.

They are not entitled at all, they are filling a void in the market that Apple doesn't want filled. As I understand it this is explicitly legal under the DMCA and the EU DSA,

Except what they are doing is specifically legal under the DMCA, and protected under the EU SDA. Under the EU SDA, Apple might even have to assist them.

Oh, absolutely, but the approach I mentioned is a little more convenient in some instances and provides a good balance IMO.

Much the same result can be achieved by using a portable browser stored on an encrypted volume run inside a sandbox. For example on Windows, you can use portable Librewolf stored on a veracrypt volume running iside a portable sandboxie-plus sandbox (also stored on the encrypted volume).

> Dont understand why not more ppl switched to alpine on the desktop.

Same. When I was looking for a minimalistic distro, while unorthodox it seemed better than the alternatives. My next choice would be Void but I ran into some issues with it, and Alpine worked much more flawlessly.
