I just tried and it immediately said, in red letters, “I’m unable to produce a response”

Wow - I had no idea there had been so many cycles in the rise, stagnation and decline of intelligence. I would agree we are at risk of another decline due to over reliance on large language models.

I will look for more watchmaker examples. I read ?Boorsteins? Discoverers, it had a long chapter on the discovery of time as a human invention

I had absolutely no idea there were so many watchmakers that were great inventors. But there are many time pieces which are works of engineering marvel.

Fantastic study thank you and such evocative language “The fluttery flight of butterflies over a sunny meadow instils fascination, yet the flight of butterflies remains somewhat a mystery. The few flight mechanistic studies performed so far on butterflies have triggered suggestions that they use a variety of unsteady aerodynamic mechanisms for their force production. Among these mechanisms, the upstroke wing clap, first described by Weis-Fogh for insects already in the early 1970s, is one repeatedly reported as used by butterflies. Despite the importance of this mechanism, as far as we know, quantitative measurements of the aerodynamics of the wing clap in freely flying animals are still lacking.”

Brilliant - we think much less than we think we think.

Things have improved considerably over the last 3 months. Claude with cursor.ai is certainly over 50%

Good read. There was also a book about this. But I have not read it - maybe I will now!

There is a post Where are they now. In Wired magazine about the team 20 years later https://www.wired.com/2000/12/eagleteam/

Interesting post. Thank you. Agreed Wells should be read widely. Szilard actually became very concerned about world peace after new with Wells and tried to stop the non being dropped after learning Germany did not have it. This is a warning to what we build today.

It makes no sense that intelligence research is unintelligible to a wider audience. I almost gave up reading, but then thought, no I want to understand this. Good thoughts … we need a Carl Sagan to communicate it better!

Thank you. Noted and sorry - I was loathe to take an online photo … this one was actually 7th effort as I did not want the ‘fake’ likeness, I felt it captured a resemblance… I managed a good one of JvN but you are right to address this. I think in future I will use a symbol rather than a ‘character (un) likeness ’

Very, very impressive.. I ran a couple of tests and on the complex it received 80% although I would say it was harsh as the answer could be said to be correct- although I found the questions generated rather simple not complex.

The 2nd test it was 100% incorrect for the complex questions! However when I checked directly with gpt-4 based upon the questions rendered it answered 100% correct. Could that be due to my custom settings in gpt4? Will run it with university students. Fascinating work
