What free internet? You always pay with your time and also usually with lots of tracking and ads.
AI can easily strip any ads for fractions of a cent. AI bots can be tracked - Open Router (or equivalent) will probably don't mind. That is the point of the article - ad and tracker infested webpages will soon be struggling, and some other forms of monetization needs to come.
You forget that bots are often just AI agent working for humans. This will be more and more common. So by blocking bots (which is literally impossible but lets assume otherwise) you are also blocking legitimate customers.
This is exhausting only if you don't value your time (which is the biggest cost when reading the news). People will learn how to make such decisions quickly.
Journalism is losing to "free" "news" sites. Those need to produce cheap, clickbait slop to be able to function.
There is no Spotify for press so the only other good solution is having microtransactions - paying only for articles you want to see, from any provider you want. Currently you must subscribe even if you want to read single article so the very few that buy the press are usually limited to single news source.
This is a manipulation tactic not an argument. Almost nobody wants to prevent spying on kids. Main goal is to prevent harmful content like porn, gore and gambling.
(1) is considered a cost while (2) and (3) might be called an investment. Company can lie to investors that (2) and (3) costs could be removed at any time without interrupting any important business processes.
How do you observe the ability to make decisions which action to take? You can observe that one does something, not that they could decide to do something.
Training AI is often more costly than supporting human from birth till death. Just sustaining frontier LLM model on necessary hardware costs more than living in first world countries.
Self awareness, sensory stimulus and emotions are not observable - you can easily create entity that can fake those things. Any consciousness definition that uses those terms is flawed and just not useful.
