If you are a delivery company or such paying for mapbox you can build your own solution and get better quality than the open source general purpose apps.

OSM is actually perfectly sufficient if you just want street and address data. This stuff gets pulled in from official government sources so it's all present and up to date.

Where it's lacking is business info since this has to be entered manually and changes much more often than streets or buildings change.

This is sadly not a rare type of person. I'm worried my parents fit this description, they drive everywhere and work an office job. I'd guess on average they get 0 minutes of exercise a day.

I think people get this image in their head that someone who doesn't exercise ever is this comically fat unemployed person when in reality it's the average office worker who isn't fitness minded. A good chunk of HN users wouldn't be getting 15 minutes of exercise a day.

What if we could just lay in a pod 24/7 taking peptides and nutrient supplements while having an endless stream of instagram reals beamed in to our eyeballs on our Meta Raybans. That way we would never have to do pesky things like go outside or move.

A lot of people who use a car to get around will spend most days doing literally no actual exercise. For someone who lives in a more walkable area, 22 minutes of exercise is just living live normally without actively "exercising".

I avoid sleep on my desktop because it often wakes up in a weird broken state, particularly with audio glitching. I avoid sleep on my Steamdeck because the battery slowly drains in sleep.

On my Macbook I always use sleep since there are no downsides.

On Windows and Linux it is better to just turn it off because sleep is broken on most hardware. But on Mac there is next to no advantage to doing that. MacOS sleep is also more of a hybrid between sleep and hibernate where it will after enough time offload the ram to the SSD and fully power down so the machine can be in "sleep" without any power drain.

Agreed, I'm waiting for the time when 48GB+ ram is just the standard that computers come with rather than being the absolute top tier option. It just doesn't make sense to spend extra on a local AI computer right now when the same money would last for a decade of API pricing.

What I have been doing seems a bit different to what's described, but I always make sure to define how to know the task is done so the agent doesn't quit early. Usually this means telling it to to run the tests and type checks to ensure it runs without errors.

Otherwise they often do a first pass looks good enough but it doesn't actually work.

I think we needed Apple to do that to throw a lot of weight behind the standard so it didn't get stuck in an eternal migration that never ends. Though removing the SD card slot was dumb since USB-C was never an alternative to SD cards.

Even today the desktop PC market is still stuck on USB-A since they have no Apple equivalent to just get things done.

I'm a fairly proficient linux user and I just can not get streaming to work properly and I've dedicated multiple hours to trying to set it up. The built in Steam streaming gets the closest but often just lags out for no obvious reason. Sunshine/moonlight seem to be close to working but weird display issues are constant. I've got it to the point where the steam big picture video streams perfect but when you launch a game the screen size seems to change where I can only see part of the screen on my target device.

Feels like a technology that is theoretically entirely possible but the current implementations need a lot of polish.

As a steam deck user I've become very bothered how some games run like a dream while others are unplayable, seeing beautiful games running perfect on the hardware proves it's more than possible, but studios aren't allocating the resources to make things run efficiently.

If anything good comes out of these insane prices I think it will be more effort allocated to efficiency rather than relying on consumers buying x% faster hardware every year.

Instead they made the right choice and subsidise the software. Valve has been sending patches for Linux for over the last 10 years as well as giving SteamOS out for free for other hardware now.

Having 2 remotes is so much easier than trying to flash custom firmware on the TV

There's also the fact that devices would still need an internal PSU to convert the 28v USB-C to the multiple voltages that all the parts inside need. It would be smaller without the AC to DC conversion though.

You ideally want to get a USB-C brick that's over specced and from a reputable brand. Like if you get a macbook 140w usb-c brick it will work fine with everything.

Even for actual PSUs it's always been the advice that you want a decent amount of headroom to avoid issues.

I think what they mean is not PD related at all, but the fact some cheap junk has a broken USB-C setup where it's missing the resistor that signals a device has been plugged in and to turn on the 5v power. While USB-A just have 5v live at all times.

If you use a USB-A to C cable the device works because it results in a USB-C cable with an always active 5V.

It's the empty calories of literature. More would be more if there actually was more but AI writing is making it bigger without adding anything actually more. It inserts loads of fluff and repetition that takes longer to read but doesn't exchange more information or ideas.

We just need bots to read all these facebook posts and then we can put the phone down and go back to doing something real.
