It’s worth also mentioning that as far as I am aware the OpenBSD folks also almost universally eat their own dog food. Most of not all the developers run -current. The bleeding edge. So they can find and fix any issues. I’m not sure how many of the other developers for FreeBSD or NetBSD do that.

Yeah I don’t understand that at all. Old hardware running new software always degrades performance. Always. Name one instance where that didn’t happen? Newer versions of windows. Newer iOS or Android. On old hardware always runs slower. That’s not deliberate it’s the progression of technology. Hardware is static software is not. You can’t upgrade the hardware in embedded spaces for the most part so you have to accept it can’t run the newer software as fast as a new piece of embedded hardware. It has slower IO, memory, CPU etc.

This argument that someone is surprised old hardware is slower with new software is such a disingenuous statement. Either that or you clearly do not understand technology.

You don’t HAVE to checksum. You can set checksumming to off. It’s foolish and defeats the point of keeping your data safe but ZFS gives you the ability to commit suicide if you choose.

I could be wrong but I was under the impression certain sec folks objected to a lot of his patches because they just are not sold on if ASLR really adds any benefit. Or any benefit vs the complexity it adds. Correct me if I’m wrong. I know Theo has bought into it. I just recall in FreeBSD it wasn’t accepted if it really fixes anything.

I’ve been looking at “document management” software both open source and commercial for a very long time. Every one of them sucks. Are they powerful? Maybe. But their interfaces suck. Dependencies are out of control. Managing the app and it’s dependecnies are insanely time consuming. You want a product that scales, has a decent UI and the only way to get that is to make it simple. Also I require the “library” file to be stored on a network server not locally. The only app I have found to do these things is CDfinder. Everything else takes to much work to install, upgrade and maintain. Not to mention being too complex to reasonably manage, tag and search your photos, documents and digital data.

How dare they actually value what’s important and be content and happy how dare they! I’ve seen the future California wants and some of it sucks. People addicted to electronic devices. Going entire days without looking another human in the eyes. Working 18 hour days at some slave startup. Come on man. Tech is not what’s important. I think those of us in the Midwest have a better foundation of what’s important. As you said, families, relationships, Friday night local football games, but you enjoy your society of sexual predators and socialism out there! KC btw has a small but active tech startup scene.

The war on drugs is an EPIC faulted by any measure. It’s almost criminal in itself. Addiction is a health issue NOT a brutal police force issue.

End the war on drugs. Stop tearing families apart for non violent offenders and victimless crimes.

Dissolve the DEA. Return the money to the tax payers. Lower taxes.

Stop the savagery. Portugal and now Norway. Hopefully the sane nations continue to grow.

Second do you have ANY idea how many elections the US has “meddled” in? Let alone how many leaders we have literally overthrown?? Get some perspective. One day the people may wake up to realize some things. Like voting R or D does not matter because they share the same di5k to eff you with. There is no difference between the two parties. None. The rhetoric is different but the actual voting records show they are the same animal. Beholden to the same military industrial complex/corporate masters.

They may also realize that if voting actually changed anything it would be illegal.

Neither of which I expect to see in my lifetime. I also have little faith in the intelligence or critical thinking of my fellow countrymen when they can’t seem to understand the above or do anything about it.
