I have shied away from certain designs because Google has very specific ideas about how a site should be structured, rooted in the pre- web app days. If Google had real competition, they would adapt to better index "modern" designs and architectures. Instead, developers/designers have to limit ourselves if we want Google to not only index our content, but not penalize our rankings.

When I'm performing a precise search, where the search engine should do exactly what I tell it, I use Duck Duck Go. I use Google when I want to rely on their "smart" algorithms. Basically I default to DDG, and if I'm not finding the results I want, I see if Google's magic can do better.

That's not actionable. The dark part here is the serious threat of applying oppressive prior restraint policies at will. Employing machine learning in the process would only offer a false sense of legitimacy.

JSX is very close to HTML. Maybe the issue is expecting designers who have zero dev skills to build front ends in a time of responsive design and rich JS interfaces. You wouldn't hire a print designer with no Photoshop experience to design a site, and you shouldn't hire a graphic designer with no web dev skills to build front ends. If you're team is really well formed, you might have an experienced graphic designer, a UX expert, and a front end developer who does the actual building as well as making day-to-day design decisions. The design/interface experts would work at a higher level of creating an overarching design language and UX guidelines.

When a negative tendency must be negated, there are always people who pretend the negation is no different. It's a question of what/who not to tolerate, and why -- the answer doesn't fit in an image macro or on a bumper sticker, just as it can't be packaged in a word like "intolerance".

It just means the authority is relevant. If you pull out Merriam Webster in an argument about the meaning of the term "racism", you are appealing to authority, which is a logical fallacy. Appealing to authority is a logical shortcut, like any other fallacy, and in a way can be thought of as memoization. Every single logical fallacy has an efficient purpose, but departs from pure logic.

Unless you're solving mathematical problems, how does math directly translate to programming (ignoring efficiency)? I agree with the sentiment that the connection is over-stated. Whenever I hear this argument, it feels like reductive FP propaganda. I'm interested in FP, but not because "it's just math". Sometimes it's nice to piggyback off of mathematics, and it's true that a program is a sort of proof, but sometimes (most of the time) it's better to not be so formal, and not be so academic.

Also, math and logic are obviously related, but logic is not "a form of mathematics". If anything, mathematics is a form of logic.

Yeah, IMO it's mostly about convincing non-technical people that, while they know what they want, you know what they need and are able to provide it. If you're not doing this, your boss is.

Logic more so than mathematics. Mathematics as a means to achieve efficiency, which is an afterthought most of the time. Most working programmers don't need more than a basic understanding of algebra.

That's messed up. In this case, store password DB in deniable TrueCrypt (or similar) volume on an airgapped machine, secured with a memorized passphrase. That way, they can't prove there's something to decrypt, and you haven't memorized any passwords they know about. But it sounds like merely failing to produce a password is a crime in general, which seems unfair to those who have lost / forgotten their password.

An attack that requires installing a keylogger and communicating the results over a period of time is less robust than an attack that searches your system for passwords at rest. How often do you lose your wallet? Hopefully less often than you change your passwords...

Well if you're willing to compromise on security by trusting a password manager / encrypted volume (plus user opsec) to store your passwords, there are other compromises one can make to facilitate easier memorization. Security by obscurity is a worthless feature when designing a cryptographic system, but it is an invaluable tool for your own personal opsec. Reuse some passwords for services with a lesser threat model, with slight changes. Is it sub-optimal? Sure, but so is trusting a black box program with your passwords, probably running on your everyday (read: unsecure) computer. As your parent noted, you can't automate low tech cryptanalysis, and you're really not that important.

Random pass phrases written in uv marker on the underside of your desk, in a notebook (bonus: you can burn it once memorized) scrambled and/or hidden among decoy passphrases. Make the phrase long enough (high enough entropy) that you have enough time to memorize it and use it before it should be rotated.

Whether you like this implementation or not, the solution is to choose better passwords.

edit: I just realized you weren't referring to a context menu, but select/middle-click. Duh, didn't even think to try that as I don't really use that feature much. That'll do the trick for now, though apparently they plan to remove this feature from the next gnome release? Seems odd to me -- Anyways, thanks for the suggestion, now I can use alacritty for remote sessions!

I'm using Mint Mate (Sarah), can't get a context menu on right click. I installed all of the dependencies mentioned in the readme, though maybe Mint requires something that Ubuntu doesn't. Tmux mouse support works, interestingly enough.

I wholeheartedly support this. Count me among those that like the idea of an "optimized tmux renderer".
