Actually you can use Mixpanel exactly for that. We're a B2B company and have exact same use case as yours. We provide some Javascript code that our customers add on their sites. We don't require our customers to have Mixpanel account and we also don't load our Mixpanel JS to our customers' site.
What we do is - we send requests to our server from our customers' site with key information that we want to track, and then we send those events to Mixpanel through server API (e.g. PHP) calls.
It works really well for us. We're measuring how our customers' customers are using our Javascript based widget, and are able to improve our performance, engagement, etc.
I'm not sure charging $10/month is the right way of monetizing this service. It's useful, but you have to think is it valuable and critical enough to pay $10/month? For "consumers", you should target somewhere around $3-$5/month. That too, not all consumers will pay this - so you have to have some Freemium approach. I feel current version of service should be Free and do Ad-based revenue. And then you add more advanced features based on user feedback, and then make that Premium plan with no Advertising.

Frankly speaking, I haven't handled this case yet. I guess most users are genuine. And so far no one has complained, so I wasn't really worried about it. But I see your point, and need to think about this - at least I need to have some plan in mind in case such thing starts happening.
This is cool. I developed a Voice Call reminder iPhone app - http://JustRemindIt.com. When I developed it, its soul purpose was to send Voice Call reminders to anyone. I didn't think too much at that time for what else people can use this app.
Couple customers sent me feedback email saying that this app is really cool as it helps them to get out of a boring meeting. They simply schedule a Voice Call reminder to themselves. And my app does the reliable job of calling them. When phone rings, they just walk out of a meeting without faking much :).
Couple of people said they use it as a "Future Voice Mail" service. Send real message to someone, not just "reminding" specific.
I guess use case mentioned in this article could be another use case for my app :).
I think the bigger news for hackers is that they are announcing Shopify Fund - http://shopify.com/fund. They're calling developers to build apps for Shopify platform and want to compensate between 5K-10K. Definitely a great idea to get that initial funding if you've an app idea around eCommerce platform.
I don't think so this particular case is just "few hours of A/B testing". They were testing pretty drastic design changes - and it takes lot more than few hours to come up with design concepts, copyright text, and then actual implementation. These were not typical "test different landing page title or action call button color" tests. These were brand new design changes. So for established companies, this is absolutely the right approach - as your product is already ready, now just increase the sales. But for many early stage companies, when product development itself is constantly evolving and demanding, spending so much time on different design iterations is not always possible. Agree, their results are phenomenal, but not sure how many companies understand this before they try.

My techie friends from Silicon Valley also don't use Quora. So don't worry, not everyone in Valley uses it. I think very few % of Valley users are using it.
This is classic chicken and egg problem. As a Startup who wants to post a job ad, I've no idea if you have enough students who are looking for job on your site, and is it worth paying $100/post. If you're starting now, then keep the job posting free or very minimal, so that you'll have more jobs posted. Once you reach students mass, then you can charge more to startups.
