As someone who got out of a 19 Bolt through the buybacks after the first recall, good riddance. The software update limiting range to 90% was one thing, but with the second defect the suggestion is to avoid letting it go below 70 miles of range (~30% charge). That certainly takes a bite out of the usability of the car.
From the first recall the continual "the real fix will be out next month" got old really fast. Hopefully GM does better this time. Good luck to all the current Bolt owners, I'm happy I'm not in that group anymore.
I'm certainly not advocating for restricting free spread of information. My point is just that opinions are informed by the historical context they came from, so the comparison isn't really relevant given the drastic differences between communication abilities in the relevant time periods. Making the point that we shouldn't revisit that opinion because we're in prosperous times without considering the differences in the context informing the opinion seems disingenuous to me.
To be fair, James Madison didn't live in a time where someone could easily spread their beliefs to millions of people instantaneously. Historical comparisons have their place, but this probably isn't it.
The captive customer base could be really powerful. My wife and I took our first trip in our ID4 last weekend, which includes free charging at the ElectrifyAmerica stations for 3 years. Several of our stops were at Walmarts, and we'd go in and buy a few things we needed because we were there already waiting for the car to charge. It was the most time I'd spent in a Walmart in years
I thought I ran into the same issue with another site a few weeks ago, turns out I was just misspelling my domain name and their validation was checking that they could actually get an email to that domain.
I went from a Bolt to now having an ID4. So far it seems to fall in the VW but electric category (although this is my first VW, so take that with a grain of salt). Major things I prefer over the bolt: nicer (in my opinion) interior, more interior space, travel assist is pretty awesome, slightly longer range, and higher fast charging rate. The higher fast charging rate is what's making it more viable for us to take that instead of my wife's gas car for trips, since charging stops don't need to be as long.
I think deliveries from reservations in the US started in March. I bought one a few weeks ago because some dealers have gotten a few that weren't reserved, but for the most part it's still very limited supply in the US.
I think industry definitely matters here. Software companies and other companies building a product I would think would be more flexible with remote work than wall street. I work for a trading firm, and for me it was really interesting to see the entire industry go from "we can't have traders trading from home under any circumstances" to "traders are trading from home now" practically overnight last march.
The teams thing is interesting. It bit me a few months ago because a teammate accidentally registered for a race with the wrong car. He couldn't back out or join the race with the new team the rest of us registered with because he was already in a team.
I'm not sure why it's implemented this way, but given the issues with registration/session creation for the Daytona 24 hour this year I'd guess the team event registration is write only and doesn't permit updates in order to simplify the session creation logic.
