> In the long run, every piece of software tends towards mediocrity.

Alternative view: Maybe that's okay, and greybeards know that.

Mediocre: "something of only moderate or ordinary quality"

Maybe we don't need the latest and greatest extraordinary technology when coding our next CRUD app.

There's a tiktok of Sam Altman reacting to a viral clip of someone using Voice to time themselves on a mile run (it hilariously failed).

Sam's reaction was "Yea, it doesn't have access to tools like a timer. It's a known issue. Should be coming in about a year"

Edit: here's the clip: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Py2YgJe8fqQ

I mean let's face it, most of us reading this comment are medically obese and would probably live at least 2-3 years longer if we lost 20 pounds.

So why don't we?

Not that it really matters, but the article also refers to it as “drawing water to the top”. That seems more representative of reality than “pumping water from the bottom”.

I’m not convinced model productivity will scale forever.

Presumably there are a lot of use cases that are essentially “solved” where more powerful models won’t matter.

> I sensed once that I had irritated someone

Solid advice, (but to others reading) don’t optimize for not irritating people.

Especially your professional network. You built those relationships because you wanted to use them in the future, and the future is now… so, tap them! If they don’t like that, no big deal, no sweat, move on.

If you’re irritating multiple people constantly, then yea you’re probably doing something wrong. But if it’s one person once in a blue moon, that happens, don’t over optimize for avoiding that. You can’t make everyone happy

"To play this Blueray, you must renew your encryption key"

Is that really a thing?

Except I mailed the cash in advance! It’s okay, it was probably another 14 year old.

My parents were not happy when I told them I sent cash to a stranger. I remember having to do it in secret because they were very not okay with the idea that you can meet strangers online. Hah.

Magical indeed!

I once mailed $70 cash (multiple months of allowance) to someone to code a MVP of something I wanted to build.

They ripped me off and disappeared.

And… that’s when I decided I needed to learn to code!

Double unlock.

In the mid 2000’s, I moderated a domain name discussion forum in exchange for free hosting. “X forum posts per month = x gb of bandwidth”

My goal was to post enough for them to give me WHM access so I could try to resell it.

Those were the days.

Direct link to buy:

https://www.questhealth.com/product/vitamin-d-test/17306M.ht...

Definitely not the cheapest place to order the test from, but it will get the job done.

K2 is also known to prevent problems with calcium build up which can happen if Vitamin D is dosed too high. I personally would never take Viramin D without K2 alongside it.

> I suspect the price hike would drown out the news of all the new stuff. And I really don’t think Apple wants that.

I think they could get away with it if they do something like drop the price of the lowest device tier (or minimally hold price steady) and only increase prices on their more premium line up, where the premium buyers are less price sensitive.

I agree with your disagreement. Even though I’m the one you’re disagreeing with.

I just checked my account.

They accept Visa, Mastercard and Discover via Apple Pay for a 2% deposit fee.

But I also see it says they don’t accept credit card in their help docs. I’m not sure what that’s about.
