Not that weird, you're in the majority now and birth rates are plummeting all over the world.

This is true for consoles as well. Console prices are increasing, I think this is the first time I witness that. Console prices used to go down until the next generation comes out.

They spied on their mobile users with the Facebook app to detect Instagram and WhatsApp growth early

Not really.

In France we have a French brand of bikes, from the sports retailer Intersport, called Nakamura...

They actually hide the fact it's a local brand, let people think it's a Japanese brand, to suggest it's higher quality.

Don't you already have conduits, or undergrounds where old telephone lines are running already? That's what we used to install optical fiber everywhere in cities France. Really easy, nothing to tear open. And because it's dense, it's cheap per home.

On the other hand, rural areas require to digging a lot of kilometers of trenches just to connect a few houses. Much more expensive per home.

Human decisions but usually with external factors: increasing costs, pressure to grow, etc.

If they could get away with raising price just because they feel like it they would do it earlier and more often.

It's a vicious cycle if we get in an "inflationary spiral", but most of the time a small inflation is pretty healthy.

Comparing prices between Japan and Europe or US is strongly skewed by the weak yen.

The fact that the JPY has lost a lot of value compared to the US dollar has nothing to do with how prices or salaries in Japan evolve.

I remember getting interested in an app because of the icon looked nice. Also couldn't use apps if the icon was too ugly and spoiled my beautiful dock.

They have more than 1 billion people that are getting more and more educated, they have the capital and will to invest in it, they will get there eventually.

The "moat" we're talking about with private companies is that it's very hard for competitors to get enough funding to compete, and private investors are unwilling to invest in a company that will compete with a big established player. That's completely different when a state has a strategy and decides to invest to achieve a goal.

They're already capable to build microprocessors completely in-house. This is precisely the cutting edge we're talking about.

This matters for AI datacenters in particular, if they want to be autonomous in building them they need to be able to build advanced microprocessors locally.

Depends on the country I guess, but in France it's about 3% of the rent.

For that price they will pay you the rent if the tenant is not paying, and take care of the getting paid by the tenant.

If landlords don't want to pay that, then they accept the risk of having to deal with a tenant who doesn't pay.

The benefit you give (be able to "cut" a kana in the middle) is really weak, I've never seen anyone being confused by that when learning in kana.

This is completely nullified by all the drawbacks of using romaji while learning and they're well known already.

The only reason to use romaji for Japanese grammar is to explain the concepts to someone who has no interest in learning the language, just for their general knowledge.

They are completely ignoring the market of parents who want a non-Smartphone for their kids. And I'm pretty sure this market is going to grow, much more than adults who want to limit themselves.

Most are happy and stop at multimillionaires, but of course we don't hear about them. The focus on hungry billionaires is survivor bias.

We don't hear about Tom from MySpace.

That's pretty crazy when you see that in developed countries, Japan in particular, population is aging and declining.

Countries should be competing for the best immigrants, not closing their doors.

I never really understood this "US person" restriction. There are 350M people in US, mostly citizens and green cards holders, surely some of them could be working for a foreign power.

This is a short-term view approach and can really hurt a company on the long term.

It's also why US car companies are a wreck.
