Could it actually be that the United States is in a plain old recession?

I know the stock markets are higher than ever due to AI investment. But the real economy may not be in a great shape hence the layoffs.

While the cause may be not be AI, but instead policy, e.g. tariffs. But also multiple conflicts ( Ukraine , Iran, Lebanon), leading higher oil , gas, critical raw material prices. China heavy exporting economy but not having domestic demand to fuel growth and bilateral trade with other countries.

All leading to less consumer consumption, slower economy , more layoffs to cut costs, less consumer consumption etc.

So no ai related but many external factors at the same time. But ai is hiding the pain due to the high stock market valuations. Which may explain that despite all the usual recession symptoms we aren’t treating it as a recession.

I am curious what other think.

Are there local models dedicated to programming already any good? That could be a way to deal with anthropic or others flipflopping with token usage or limits

I have been looking for something like this. I know openbao, hashicorp vault.

But they require to be placed on a separate server, and come with their own infra management.

Is the idea of this project to embed this into you app, instead of relying on .env or an external vault?

How do you market your software? Did you learn how to become a marketer and took it as a persona? What have you learned how to market your software in the past 20 years as a developer?

Good article, sometimes a bit hard to read with all the links to other blog posts.

However there are some good nuggets in this article like this one: "That’s when I realized: we’d built a dependency on one person’s specialized knowledge. And that knowledge had nothing to do with our actual product."

I see that at more smaller orgs, where they want to have technology X but fail to realize it requires a small team. Not because its a 3 man job to operate but because if 1 leaves or is unavailable the knowledge is gone. The knowledge can be acquired but it takes some time, and that in between period can be painful. When you tell them that and then they start to calculate the costs, it can be sobering.

The advice to keep the tech boring and widely embedded in the organization is something I agree with.

I really liked reading about the history of your homelab. How do you like the 3d printed rack enclosure? Is it strong enough to hold the weight and heat from the server?

If all manufacturers jump into serving the ai market segment.

Can this not be a opportunity for new entrants to start serving the other market segments?

How hard is it to start and manufacture memory for embedded systems in cars, or pc?
