A solution to this is for creators to make the same move as ecommerce businesses going from Etsy to Shopify. Getting closer to the money and having patrons pay them through their own domain. I believe in this idea so much that I built a solution for creators who want to do exactly that -> https://jetpeak.co
Policy interest rates have wide reaching impacts across society, sometimes second and third order effects that can be hard to predict. Generally though, increasing interest rates encourages more saving instead of borrowing. Less borrowing means less aggregate spending. The overall effect is that people buy less stuff (lower demand). This lowers prices if the supply stays the same.
"Properly" is a debatable term in the world of economics since its not a hard science. The best we can hope for is to gather many different perspectives and combine them into a reasonable blended average.
If it helps you at all, I just published a new post on rising interest rates, what effects they might have and how you might cope better with them: https://ericvanular.com/rising-interest-rates
Big fan of SQLAlchemy & Alembic as well - I had originally assumed that these tools were for people using Flask and the like. Curious how you use it with Django? Django has a built in migration manager or so I thought
Thanks for building Backblaze. If you're able to share some feedback with the team - this is an extremely important factor. If you can ensure downtime is avoided during maintenance windows, it will make your service much more viable for production systems
Great to see more funding pouring into this space. Getting capitalism financially aligned with climate action is going to the critical lever. If you'd like to put your money where your mouth is, check out https://enviro.work to find work opportunities related to sustainability. (disclaimer: I'm the founder)
2020 has brought permanent change to the working world and the way that economic incentives are pointed. In this post, we walk through how the effects we’re starting to see today will reward those who can position themselves well in the next couple of years. A vaccine is starting to be deployed as of the time of writing and we can imagine how a post COVID world will play out. Having worked with data for some time, I can confidently say that forecasting is generally wrong for most things - but forecasts that anticipate how incentives will affect behaviour are usually right...
Why should you care about being likeable? It’s a valid question. In reality, this isn’t just a vanity metric or something to make you feel good. Likeable people make more money, live longer, have more opportunities, and have more success in their love lives.. Everything has to do with human relationships at a certain point, so it’s really worth investing some effort in improving your likeability.
In this post, I'm sharing tips I've learned the hard way and by poring over other content around the topic. I hope it helps you!
Hey parhamn, Cloudsynth looks awesome. If you'd like to connect with a community of climate action oriented people, feel free to post about your work over at https://collective.energy (I'm the founder).
For anyone else who cares about making a positive impact on the planet, come join us as well!
Most of us want to do more in the battle against climate change - it’s tough when your work life is unrelated. Right now, if you want to find a job that helps the planet, there’s no clear way to go about that. You could look for environmentally focused companies individually and keep checking their site to see if they are hiring. But that’s tedious and it’s easy to miss new postings. Conventional job boards don’t have a good way of filtering for this. A couple of environmental jobs boards exist, but they have low post volume and are dispersed geographically.
https://enviro.work is the place to come find green jobs in one spot. Think of it like a search engine for all Earth-friendly jobs out there. We aggregate eco-positive jobs from different sources and link you back to the source.
We wanted to help empower purposeful individuals to maximize their potential for the planet. Enviro.Work is linked with the community at https://collective.energy, where you can find inspiration, feedback, and an audience for your eco projects. Turn climate ideas into plans into reality - then build your team with Enviro.Work.
I'd love to know what you think and hear your helpful feedback.
There’s a ton of reasons why becoming a consultant might work for you. One of the great things about starting your own consulting business is that it doesn’t require a big outlay of cash. Starting a consulting business can be accomplished fairly simply by finding businesses that need help with a specific challenge and offering them your help solving that problem.
That said, simple definitely doesn’t mean easy. I struggled for a long time to get clients and communicate my value. In this post, I wanted to share some of the lessons I learned so that some of you don't have to make the same mistakes. Consulting is a different game in 2020.
Let me know if you wish there was more content on anything specific! Always thankful to the HN community for your constructive feedback and support
It’s crucial that developing countries expand their energy infrastructure in a sustainable way.
Pretty much everything else hinges on it.
Around 118 million people gain access to electricity each year. If we don’t ensure that clean energy is the default choice for them, we risk jeopardizing all the work that has been done to date.
Author here, I'd love to hear your ideas for how to build the energy infrastructure the right way in developing economies!
Paradoxically, the way to help create solutions to the climate crisis is... the same way we got into this mess - by following the money.
Most people realize that we all need to create impactful solutions to the urgent environmental situation. An obvious reason why this isn’t the case already is because environmental and economic incentives don’t point the same way.
Author here. Let me know your thoughts on the post or the approach I'm advocating. Would love to hear contrasting opinions!
