That's the whole reason I refuse to install Google Drive or Dropbox's desktop applications. I only use the web interface so I know exactly what gets uploaded and when. I assume that anything running on my computer gets access to everything.
> Nobody, at the time or since, said that Schiavo "wasn't really alive" but rather, some people wanted her dead
I'm saying it. She was in "an irreversible permanent vegetative state". That is as close to dead as you can get. Even a coma is better. You can wake up from a coma, but this is an amount of brain damage where the part of the brain responsible for consciousness is dead and never coming back.
> But it is disingenuous to invoke "rightwing government", when a Franciscan friar was sneaking into the hospital trying to feed a starving woman [Terri], who was so hated by her husband that he would take extreme measures to get rid of her.
I don't think he hated her, he just didn't want to be under the crushing medical debt to keep someone alive who wasn't really alive.
> The well meaning, naive proponents of legalisation of euthanasia have actually made things a lot harder for those who want it.
That sounds like the actions of a politician who wants to claim they are for something while secretly trying to destroy it. It doesn't seem "well meaning" to me.
That's what the US Republicans did to the ObamaCare act.
I am not a lawyer, but if they don't appeal and win, it will set a precedent that they'd (and other companies) have to pay out on any other employees fired for this reason. That will cost them more in the long run.
The original link did not work for me. It displayed the article for a couple of seconds and then popup said "register for free to continue reading this article." When I clicked on the popup's 'x', it redirected me to the front page.
I know nothing about nothing, but I always assumed that all the money was from Hollywood and Silicon Valley. Outside of those two highly localized industries, is there really much more money than other states have?
I've been following the Russia/Ukraine war and satellite internet has been pretty important there. For first world countries not currently being bombed to death, you're probably right. But for everywhere else it is better than waiting for new ISPs to start up and get fiber rolled out. It is the global market outside the US that they are probably going for.
Now the government has an extra incentive to get rid of unions entirely so that the company (and the government shareholder) makes more money. So yes, option B.
They also have an incentive to use legal pressure to suppress competitors. But I am sure this (and other administrations) would never throw their weight around for fun and profit. /s
They make stationary bikes that fit under a desk. I've never used or seen one, but they exist. I considered getting one during 2020, but they seemed impossible to source.
Or they don't even know the camera is there. I've heard of landlords doing that in tenant's private spaces, including bathrooms. When caught, they like to claim they are just keeping an eye on the property, but everyone knows they are just perverts.
