Not sure about "the tech is well understood" given the LLM itself is a black box in regards to how it works internally, even Microsoft researches admit it (Sparks of Artificial General Intelligence: Early experiments with GPT-4).
It's far too rare for a founder to maintain control in that way while also growing the company to the size of Facebook is. For example, Basecamp has managed to maintain control but it's nowhere near their size.
