Lately I'm getting less emotional about this stuff, and realizing that the market is probably smarter than me. If skilled businesspeople, politicians, and people managers are more rewarded by the market, they are probably more valuable to more of society, or at least the parts with money to give. The elite probably choose to have their children educated in the humanities rather than the sciences for a reason. Given that an entry level software development job will give me enough money to sustain myself indefinitely while saving a lot, I'm investing in these areas rather than being upset. My logical reasoning skills (as I can observe them through my performance at chess or math, two of my hobbies) seem to be improving anyway.

Not really informed on the Bible or theology, but I've had the following reading:

Life in the days of the Old Testament (and even afterward for a long time) was incredibly harsh. If your people collectively did the wrong things, you would weaken, and there was a very real chance that your neighbors would genocide or enslave you and take your land. Even today, engaging in many of what the Christians or even the Jews would consider sins can strongly increase the probability of really horrific things happening in your life. Generational childhood obesity from poor parental nutrition knowledge also provides an easy example of how the effects of sin can be felt across generations.

Gluttony - many people today are obese, diabetic, and so on. If you fail to avoid gluttony, you can irreparably destroy your body, cripple yourself, and die young.

Lust - You can waste hours and years of your life masturbating to internet pornography, and destroy your actual life through addiction. You can easily hook up with many girls from Tinder and contract some incurable STD or have an early pregnancy, or ruin your marriage and your life by cheating.

Greed - Do you really not know of any workaholic who is convinced he is "winning" while his net worth is increasing, but has wrecked health, barely knows his children, and has a bad relationship with his wife? And so on

It's not obvious to me that the God of the Old Testament is less cruel than empirical reality. Given that this holds, my question is then the following:

-do you (not you individually, but the people in my argument) want this text to be compatible with reality? Or do you prefer a more simple and pious tale?

-to what extent do people have an issue with the way the world works rather than the Bible?

No, she was pretty smart and sort of obese. She got in shape during the time period and was normal weight by the time she quit.

When I started out, I thought you would be assigned work with the expectation that you could complete it. I basically murdered myself for a half a year and developed minor health problems, since I was broke and worried about losing my income. As my energy and stuff deteriorated I lost the ability to concentrate or do much work, and I started getting warnings for not working fast enough etc. At that point I felt manipulated and got angry, and thought that actual work output counted for nothing, since it just lead to raised expectations, accusations of not working hard enough, and no upside.

So I spent half a year doing the minimum amount of actual work I thought I could get away while spending the rest of my time socializing and helping out coworkers. I think this basically made my manager lose her mind. She started badmouthing me to my skip level and using me as a scape goat for our project not working out (we were a small team and I went from the highest output worker to the slowest) but all my skip level manager would hear from other employees was how great an employee I was. Eventually she seemed to start avoiding me, and then went psycho and left the organization.

Overall, I think that this only works if everyone is straight forward and doesn't do any creepy things out of greed or ambition.

I tried to figure this out a few weeks ago and was similarly confused. A lot of people on the internet seem to promote extreme diets, (paleo, veganism, etc.) but these guys also seem to open themselves up to really weird health problems (ex. Gout, rapid tooth wear & decay for vegans).

Anyway, since I didn't want to spend all my time researching this or become a doctor, I just looked up the USDA guidelines and tried to eat more in line with that.

3 meals a day, minimal snacking, home-cooked food, ~2400 calories per day (for my body & weight loss goals), 3+ servings vegetables, 2-3 servings fruits, 2-4 servings dairy, some meats and eggs, etc.

The USDA site even gives you recommendations to eat certain amounts of specific types of vegetables weekly (greens, starchy vegetables, orange vegetables, etc.) which I assume is an attempt to abstract things out a bit so we can worry less about levels of specific micronutrients

There's also an app called MyFitnessPal that lets you log food intake by scanning barcodes with your phone's camera and tracks some nutrients (vitamin a, c, potassium, iron, a few more)

Funnily enough, this goes away to some as you move along. Say I'm taking an exam and don't know how to do a proof. I pray and think that some equation is important, so I write it down with a little context. If I've done a great job up to that point, my professor will be more likely to think that I hit upon the key idea and give me 3/4 credit. If not, I'm probably more likely to just be marked wrong. You can also lose points for stylistic reasons if your professor is opinionated about them (-1 with "it is clear that" underlined and "don't write this ever again" in red ink :) ). Some professors will fail you if you get too technically correct with logical symbols everywhere instead of writing mathematical English. If you show too many steps you're wasting everyone's time; if you don't show enough or you don't seem confident you might get marked down. Etc

Anecdotally, I am also not in agreement with you on this. Another poster mentioned not 'getting' algebra until 10th grade--this didn't happen to me until roughly my second year of college. Anyway, I eventually became very motivated to excel at math. I ended up changing majors, transferring to a school with a more serious math program, and doing so well under a very heavy courseload that I won some department honors and scholarships. I basically went from not knowing high school (middle school?) algebra to demolishing my Rudin course in about 3 years. Honestly I think most people could do this and probably a lot more if they had the desire and access to a university/books

How are your teeth/gums? From what I understand, one of the major factors in tooth decay is frequency of eating, since teeth remineralize between meals, and frequent eating gives them less chance to do so.
