Then again, it seemed like it was the only drug that helped with my panic attacks, and generalized anxiety.
Benzodiazepines(mainly Klonopin) helped a bit, but dealing with MD's is tedious, and expensive, and there's nothing more irritating than a doctor whom forgets to fill refills, or wants to see you for another expensive office visit before the script is written. (I happened to run across a ethical doctor, but I'm definetly in the minority. And I only found him after seeing utterly useless "professionals".
I knew after my breakdown that if I wanted to make it to middle age, I would only use alcohol when absolutely needed. Meaning very light drinking during social events, or none at all?
I tried to only use the poison when absolutely needed.
As my grandfather said, "Moderation in everything!".
(I think I'm Shadowbanned. Up, or down vote me. To lazy to go to incognito mode on my laptop. By the way, I belive shadowbanning because you refuse to kiss a moderator's ass is childish, petty, and un-American. It's mean girl, middle school tactics. It's not clever, it's weaselly, and weak. At least tell the person that got their panties/ego in a bind to get lost?)
I knew a guy whom tried to commit suicide by shotgun. He blew the part of his brain out that controlled most of his muscles. He spent 25 years in hospital bed. His depression cleared up after his failed suicide attempt.
My mom didn't spank me on that one, but the anger she displayed stopped my childish behavior.
By the way, I think we have gone overboard on electrical codes, but not having the fuse box in the bedroom closet is a good one.
(Speaking of negative reinforcement, I belive I'm Shadowbanned. I don't care enough to check it out in incognito mode, so down-vote/upvote me please. Why did I get banned? I guess the moderator didn't like me? He did me a favor kind of, but I think shadowbanning is very petty. So petty, I'd be shocked if Dang was an American. And no--if you're going to fire someone, you just ban them. Tell them like an ethical person would do? O.k.--I guess it's obvious negative reinforcement doesn't work on the internet, at least with me?)
I think I'm shadowbanned, but at this point don't care.
I know I didn't insult anyone, but wasen't going to kiss the moderator's ego. This moderator actually emailed me (And that wasen't in the nonexistent TOS), and told me to basically get lost.
It bothered me at first because I has no idea I was banned.
My point is being banned helped my addiction a bit.
But yes--shadowbanning is a weasly way to do business. It's just so petty. I guess it gives moderators/owners a sense of power?
Anyhoo, I'm banned so why am I writing this? Therapy?
I don't care anymore. (I do care. I had no idea I was being moderated.)
I use this site as a diary somedays.
I've had a moderator tell me to stop posting. I had no idea some Moderator could invade my privacy, and tell me to get lost. I don't ever remember any TOS. It affected my psychological state. It still hurts. I really thought I was just being honest?
I just wanted to help.
I really didn't think I was out of line.
I think I ruffled a few Wealthy Boys feathers though?
The biggest hypocrites I've seen are 99% of the Wealthy. They will steal the Timex off our wrist, and tell us the time.
I have no love/respect for the silver spoon clan.
If I feel the emotional damage is severe enough; I might seek out legal counsel? You Wealthy Boys are reading this now?
I love HN. I don't like how it's moderated. I never saw, or clicked on a TOS agreement.
I really care about all of you.
I just wanted to add mt two cents.
If you're going to Shadowban me, email me? Don't let me ramble on, and on?
And thanks to fao_. I figured they wanted to silence me, but wasen't sure until now.
In kindergarten, twice a month we needed to put the correct wooden date placard on the front wall. They would hand me the card, and I would walk up to that board, and just freeze. They kids would be yelling, "over there, up one." I would go to all 31 spots until I heard, "You did it!" The kids would clap. (Kids were nice. Muss Palmer not so nice.)
I once worked at Rainbow Records. At the end of my first night, I had to call headquarters, and leave a total of the day's sales on an answering machine. Since it was my first night, my co-worker was watching me. I really liked the guy too. He was freshly from a failed signed band. Well when I noticed him watching me, I just couldn't talk. He seemed to know what was wrong, and completed the task. He didn't say anything other then, "Let's go drinking?"
I got over freezing when people were watching me, but I did bust a mental gasket in graduate school. I've never been quite the same since.
I had a panic attack, and then turned into generalized anxiety. I used busted mental gasket, because the Psychiatrist community didn't have a clue what happened to me, or offered real treatment.
I've been on two very addictive drugs for years, and dreading when my doctor retires.
I've tried, at least ten different drugs, and the non-addictive ones did nothing, but riddle my body with side effects.
I did try to go back to school, but my anxiety prevented it.
It's too bad, even after thirty years, Psychiatry is an absolute joke, other than a great money maker for the doctor.
(To those whom can't afford a Psychiatrist, or Therapy sessions; you just might be better off in the long run? I guess you need to go through it yourself though? They do have some old studies that claim that doing nothing works the same as the Psychology/Psychiatry expensive train ride. Of course, the studies were not done correctly, comming from the $350 doctor.)
1. A federal right to repair law needs to be enacted.
2. Yes--most people coud care less about ease of reparability, but most people don't know what's best for them anyways?
3. If you buy something, you should have access to all repair manuals/schematics.
4. Any anti-repair shenanigans should be illegial, or only permitted in certain situations.
5. Right now a rich boy buys any wristwatch over $400. That eatch could be an Omega, Rolex, or any of the Swatch Group watches. (Omega is now part of Swatch)
They buy the Watch. They take it out of the leather case, with all the documentation. They put their wrist. Throughout the day, they look at that beautiful piece of machinery. It's a good feeling. You worked hard, and that hunk of metal on your wrist just feels right? No--most of you could crack open the case, and fix the watch when it starts to act up, but you should have the right. The right to order a Pallet fork, or a case screw?
When you can't repair something; do you really own the watch? When that Watch needs a watch, they can't call up the factory and even order an extra watch link. (I'm yacking about watches, and cars because that's what I work on.)
6. Don't get me started on new vechicles. I took my mom car shopping. She doesn't have much money. She's getting older, and still thinks she's upper middle class in terms of income. She's not. I have bought her last three vechicles, and maintained them. I went to automotive school after I had a nervous breakdown.
I'm getting a bit personal? Well I took her to the dealerships.
I asked the Salesman about procuring a Service Manual, if we buy a vechicle. He just said, even experienced mechanics can't work on these computers on wheels.
I knew this going in. I showed my mom the $260/hr. Service rate beaming from across the fancy waiting room.
I'll stop my rant. When a company makes it difficult to repair a product, doesn't that violate The Sherman Anti-Trust Act?
I do know a governmental agency looked into Swiss Watch companies demanding that all repairs are done at their pricy factory, but they didn't do anything. They said, it's basically a rich man's problem, and not important enough for further investigation.
I live in a wealthy area. These people don't even walk their dogs, or even think about doing any repair on their homes, appliances, or vechicles.
I was not brought up that way. I was taught to repair. Apple is blatantly trying to extract more money out of their fanboys. I used to be a Fanboy, but it was during Steve's tenure, and about up to about eight years ago.
I find it depressing. Then again my life has been a depressing failure?
"The benefits of some of those advances are questionable at best. Spending the last decade of your life commuting to doctor's offices (or bedridden) ain't no picnic, nor is rotting away in a forgotten corner of a human warehouse.
To me, it's absolutely not "questionable at best": it's a tremendous step for humanity on a path to a fully enjoyable long life."
1. Lance Armstrong, whom knew he had the best insurance, talked about driving from doctors office to doctors office when he had cancer.
I would love to see doctors offices strictly zoned in easy to get to locations.
We are at our worst, and just getting to the doctor is stressful.
I'm getting older, and thinking about Kaiser. At least you have all the primadonnas under one roof?
I can't afford a Tesla, or really any new car, but I love simple machines that just work.
I have an old 80's Toyota truck that I just can't part with.
It wasen't over engineered, nor complicated. Just a vechicle I can work on, if needed? It starts, and goes. I've worked on it in the middle of s desert, with a chesp socket set.
If Tesla's do break down infrequently, they should include that in the advertising. Even though I used to be a mechanic, and a electrician the vechicle looks daunting on a mechanical level. It doesn't help that the company, like all automotive companies, don't want their customers working on their vechicle.
(Tesla has so much potential, but it needs a calm, cool, practical commander. I feel, with the right management, Tesla could become the model A of this generation?)
My only gripe is everyday the system seems more rigged.
The farmer can work their hands to the bone, but still can't compete with the wealthy farmers surrounding their farm.
Are the wealthy farmers just better workers?
I get what you are saying, but it was probally more relavant 40 years ago, at least in the USA?
And the wealthy always go back to their humble beginnings.
I've only heard one, or two wealthy boys admit; without daddy's money, I'd probally be just scraping by.
I find it very depressing.
And yes--there's the occasional Horatio Alger.
If I had a child, I would try to steer them into protected parts of the economy--like a doctor. Actually, with my bad genes, I'm glad I never had a child.
It seems like the sorting/packaging facilities would be ripe for unionization.
Then again, I could picture Bezos moving whenever union talk started?
As to why he's doing it?
I think the bad press he's been getting over wages bothers him, along with a president who isn't a fan. A president who's popular in too many states? A president who can tell his followers to just stop buying from Amazon. Any threat now will ring a bit less hollow?
Plus, didn't he just patent that bracelet that determines how fast your hands are moving? (A horrid, intrusive piece of hardware in my opinion.) At $15/hr. in the Midwest, he will get young eager workers, and will not complain against working conditions.
A union has the power to change working conditions. A union could fight a productivity bracelet?
The Swiss Watch repairer's manual, by Jendritzki (This book is great, but don't pay more than $75. After Fried's book it pulls in all the information nicely.)
Bulova Repair Training Manual
Chicago school of watchmaking (There's no copyright on this course. A guy on EBay has been scaring people for years. He does not own the copyright.)
Bestfit encyclopedia of Watch Parts 1 & 2
The clock and watch makers guide to gear making
George Daniels Watchmaking
I'll be writing my own book in the future. It will be a modern take on the repair of mechanical watches. It will have a lot of pictures. It will be direct, and to the point.
If you are interested in watch repair; I would do it as a hobby. I couldn't imagine making a good living repairing watches.
The bigger watch brands do not want to sell spare parts. That just might change in the future? Right now, it looks dim. Rolex, and the Swatch Group basically want to dictate whom, and where you can elect to get your watch repaired. Most times it the factory, at factory prices.
If you get into watch repair throughly, your appreciation of watches might change. When there's no mystery, there's no magic, I guess?
1. You're right about filthy and understaffed. (Not so sure about understaffed, but the stores were dated aesthetically.)
2. Sears is way past its business cycles. I don't think anyone would disagree. That's why they should have done (a).
A. Advertise that you are going to compete with the competition. Make it easy for the consumer. (Most consumers wouldn't even try to find a lower price, but the Psychological trust would gave been tremendous.
B. Their Internet presence should have been Amazon quality. They had the catalogue. (Their website looks dated, and feels untrustworthy. There's no excuse for that website in 2018?)
C. Offer a no questions asked refund policy. (Yes, many would have abused the policy. It doesn't matter. Goodwill would have been worth the liberal policy, along with the advertising. Customer, "It's warranties, with no questions, or invasive inquiries. Plus--many people buy returned goods.
D. Fire all high paid management. Bring in new blood.
(I had two friends whom worked for Sears. They both were paid minimum wage, and hated the organization on so many levels. One friend complained about the neck tie requirement. Why not let the employees dress comfortably? They will end up doing a better job if they feel comfortable in their appearance? And let's get serious, retail is a stepping stone job. Show some respect for your employees, and you might be suprised when they go the extra distance?
F. Craftsman tools are fine. Work on bringing them to Snap-on quality. Hell--their isn't much difference between Snap-on, and Craftsman. Both are made in third workd countries. There's a perception of quality between the two brand though. Targeted advertising might desolve that perception?
G. And I'm an absolute idiot, talking about stuff I know Nothing about!
I grew up with the store though, and everytime I went through those security doors; I felt depressed. I looked around the bohemeth and just saw a dying dinosaur.
I'm depressed just writing about it. Then again, I can't just let go of the fact that they paid so little to the Help.
Then again, it's basically all we have? I think my problem is when the AA beliefs are yelled at other members like they were laws.
As a former alcoholic, I was able to taper off alcohol myself. The doctor said I was being stupid. I wasen't going to spend my last 20 grand on a Rehab. I was a mess back then, but tapering off is what worked for myself.
(I personally feel many alcoholics have an underlying psychological problem that should be addressed.)
1. She's blaming the imaginary. She needs Professional help.
2. I understand you can't deal with it.
3. Get her professional help if you can.
4. I understand the poor whom turn their backs. I don't understand when the wealthy play Psychological know-it-all, and without consulting a professional; write the family member off.
5. I understand how the poor block the phone, and move. Yes--we have a terrible system. I understand you can't help her, but you are most likely ignorant to the cause of her psychological problems.
Then again, it seemed like it was the only drug that helped with my panic attacks, and generalized anxiety.
