In the last decade, on a fleet of almost 30 Deere machines from lawnmowers to high-clearance sprayers and combines, I could count on one hand the number of times I've needed the Deere laptop to diagnose a problem to fix it.
Man, I remember doing this in the late 90s with ipchains as the only way to get a router that didn't cost an arm and a leg. Eventually consumer/prosumer routers came out.

I don't even do that, I go into a shell and run qm commands for more complicated things. And for anything I ask an agent to do, it goes straight to qm and other CLI tools as well.
If they keep persecuting Anthropic as they have, I wouldn't be surprised to see them move offshore. If there's ever been an industry that is mobile, it would be AI.

The bug this guy brings up is very obviously a Bitlocker backdoor and raises very serious questions about what Microsoft is doing with the encryption. Pretty certainly they're able to decode the volumes without the user's key, which is extremely concerning.

Actually, figuring it on generating tokens 24/7 is the best case scenario. if you figure it at 8 hours a day of actual use, you still have the fixed cost of the hardware being the highest portion of the budget, but now you generate 1/3 the tokens so you triple that cost per token.
I had a company trying to sell me some farm management software, looked good, but every page had a chatbot window that hovered in the bottom middle and could not be dismissed. Took up like 20% of the readable area. Sales guy called me up to see how the trial was going and I said I wasn't going to continue with it because of the chatbot. He tells me I wasn't the first person he'd lost sales to because of it, but the owner was married to having that always visible as it was.
I have no compunctions about using AI, frankly, but when I don't need or want it, it needs to fuck off.
