This might be true if health is defined as the total wealth that exists in a society. But I don't think that's a good thing to optimize for. If there is too much inequality, there will be social unrest, civil war, etc.
We should be optimizing for something else. Average income increasing? The bottom quartile increasing? Longer lifespan? Happiness index? I'm don't think any of those have been increasing in the US as of late.
I subscribed for NYC. They just sent me an email saying that I'm on the waiting list, "to bring you great deals at 50% off or more". I was wondering when Google was going to jump on that bandwagon.
The part that made me sympathize with the twins was the way Zuckerburg lied to them - telling them he was working on their project, but actually working on his own. He purposefully led them on, so he could get a headstart.

Isn't your browser, computer info, ip address sent to every site you visit? Google isn't doing that, they're just adding the search terms you used to get there. This doesn't change any of the ad stuff at all, which would still all be true when searching from duckduckgo. It's very misleading.
Gizmodo does something like this but with all content. Every post has tags and you can filter the stream by excluding certain tags (or only looking at certain tags). It's very nice. Maybe that could be done as a long term solution for all future problems like this.
Nagios is probably the best free option, although configuration can be pretty complicated. I like AppFirst, it does most of the stuff you want out of the box, and you can use any Nagios plugin to add specific functionality for whatever else you want.
