I suspect Google wants to keep it away from MS more than anything. With Bing down to 2.5% market share they do not have the revs to invest. That is why Bing is so bad compared to Google on mobile.
Look at what happened when Firefox switched default search. The default search on Firefox is now worth far less than it was before as they lost huge amounts of browser market share.
Bing is down to 2.5% market share , global and all platforms.
A guy that is part of a group that drove a car into innocent people and hates anyone that is not a white, hetro male wants to break up Google and FB and it is something actually discussed on HN?
Agree. Everyone I interact with it is all TF. Even my son at University they are using TensorFlow. Hype or simply better at this point does not really matter as it is simply self fulfilling at this point.
You can get a Acer 14 refurb for under $200 which is a good dev machine using Crouton with ChromeOS. Nothing else is going to be able to touch this. Sounds like you are just not up to date what is now possible with Chromebooks.
You really do no understand what Google is doing or how it works. The article does a poor job explaining. It is more like a virtual circuit switch network. It enables far less cost in equipment as no need to over provision. But a key feature is it makes latency far more determinate. This was necessary to make Spanner work.
Heck MS owns PC and down to tiny share with Bing. Look at browsers in 2016 we had 300 million leave and mostly go to Google.
