The wealth tax is mostly and envy tax, it does not increase total tax revenue and leads to people do overinvest in property (house and cabin) to reduce the taxable wealth. For people starting a business you have to move if you get VC money as you have to pay tax on unrealized gains.
The Ministry of Finance has calculated that expatriates took NOK 142 billion in deferred income out of the country in 2022 and 2023. Given the current tax rate of 38 percent, this means that we will lose more than NOK 50 billion in tax if we are unable to get them back home before 2027. On the other hand, we lose around NOK 0.77 billion in tax each year because expatriates are exempt from the high and uniquely Norwegian wealth tax.

The wealth tax increase has lead to less total tax income due to the income tax not being paid to Norway any longer.
As usual the upper middle class pays most of the wealth tax, 12% of the population paid wealth tax. If you have wealth beyond 170.000$ (1.76 million NOK) you pay 1% of the amount above. Private home and second house (cabin) has reduced value. Average salary in Norway is around 700.000 NOK.
UK seems to totally lost it ways? The politicians seems to be doing everything they can do to harm normal people. Anyone know why UK have chosen this direction?
I remember being on a session with the pragmatic programmers (ie the people from the book) and they recommended making a compile error on purpose as the last thing one did before leaving work. The next day you compiled the code and get an error, fix this and they continue working. You are already doing work. This sets your mind on the right track from they day before. I gave used this a bit and it works pretty well.
Would it be possible to use a device like Google Nest Hub 2. for the similar purpose? It is quite a bit cheaper, I have an old mother which still is clear in the head but often have problems with her mobile phone. Would also be easier for us to share pictures of her grandchildren and such.
Was a bit surprised to see that Cold Drinks Now Represent 75 Percent of Starbucks’ Sales. I am guessing most of these cold drinks contains an huge amount of sugar and other sweeteners.
It is game changing that you can include Mermaid diagrams in Azure DevOps and Github markdown files. Makes it easy to include a chart or diagram and keep it under source control.
Looks like a great starting point with good choices of technologies. I see the database is sqlite in development as default, but it is not possible to use it in production as described in the documentation. Would be great with the option to use sqlite in production also since it is easy to use and require less resources.
It is not a very good argument that their subscription service has not increased in price in 17 years. Many online services have kept their price but the number of users have increased a lot.
The important thing about ShadowStats is that they show different methods of calculation price inflation.
Calculating inflation from prices is not easy since people tend to consume more chicken or pork of beef is getting more expensive. If you still only consume beef the price index do not show your personal reality, and this reality is different for all people.
In aggregate everything that is produced get consumed over time, so the total prices paid is always connected to the total amount of money available.
IMF: Inflation is the rate of increase in prices over a given period of time. Inflation is typically a broad measure, such as the overall increase in prices or the increase in the cost of living in a country.
Milton Friedman (famous Economists)
“Inflation is always and everywhere a monetary phenomenon, in the sense that it is and can be produced only by a more rapid increase in the quantity of money than in output.”
My take is that if more money is produced they will chase the same amount of good until the prices increase enough to accommodate the new money.
Carl Barks described inflation in the best way in his 1950 Donald Duck classic: "A Financial Fable"
Totally agree with Alphabet being the tech prediction of 2024. They have the user base and only need to come with up with an equal product of Chat-GTP to be successful. Their valuation is also pretty low compared to Microsoft with P/S of 6 compared to 13.
Regarding Trump I do not know the legal details of the crimes but I find it very unlikely the courts should decide the 2024 election, the easiest solution would be of course to delay the decision to after the election. This is not an opinion about Trump of being guilty or not.
