I actually checked it in Xombrero on OpenBSD with no issue. To be honest, I hadn't expected anyone to read the article outside of people in the IRC channel, where practically no one is running Windows.
I've got a Thinkpad T410 (integrated graphics) that's fully supported by OpenBSD 5.1; if it's fully supported by OpenBSD I'm very confident that it will be supported by Ubuntu. The Thinkpad X-series are very similar to the T-series and are much smaller and lighter.
Back when I wanted to get involved (I had a lot more free time), I saw it as an opportunity to have a graphically friendly operating system á la OS X, but actually completely open source.
I've got a macbook air and a thinkpad. I use the air much of the time but quite often I just need to get my FreeBSD fix on in spectrwm. (Yes, you can run spectrwm on OS X but it's a pita and XQuartz makes it much more difficult). Most of what I do on the thinkpad is C hacking.
I tend to approach operating systems with a BSD mindset: use what works for you, and if you have a complaint - put up with some code.
I use my iPad heavily for consuming (books, movies, etc...) include watching videos for the Stanford classes I'm doing. I use my laptop to create. The two work harmoniously - I can consume (i.e. I have a copy of The C Programming language on the iPad) while creating to feed the cycle. Works well for me.
What sold me on ST2 was the Package Control (http://wbond.net/sublime_packages/package_control) and the fact it works on my Linux box and Macbook. Generally ST2, with Aquamacs + SLIME for Clojure and Common Lisp and vim on console because my fingers are hard-wired to it (I've been using it for almost a decade).
I use Chunkhost and Bluemile Cloud; I've never had any issues with bluemile cloud (and I run a traffic heavy tor relay, SILC server, and several sites off my box) but I'm not sure if they offer VMWare instances any more. Chunkhost is generally decent but the network on the boxes is definitely slower than my other VPSes.
EDIT: forgot to mention I've used Heroku and Joyent's Smart Machines before as well. The Smart Machines are pretty solid, but I haven't used my Heroku app enough to say much about it.

The long story short, I've had the mandylion for several years, before LastPass came to be. It was the only solution at the time that offered automatic generation of passwords, automatically re-generating them after a configurable amount of time, and something I could take around with me between various machines at my university / work. Now, I could use LastPass but I already have the Mandylion worked into my daily habits.
Anything that's a passphrase is something like a sentence out of a book or song, so I just remember the passwords for them. YMMV.
For passwords, I typically use a Mandylion (http://mandylionlabs.com/products/token.htm). It has helped out quite a bit, the downside being I have to run a Windows VM for the token software.
Like I said, I've love to see legislative effort aimed at making this sort of negligence criminal; I have absolutely no legal background so I have no idea if there's current legal ground to pursue on.
They did store CVVs and expiration dates in addition to credit card numbers, so I'd imagine there's some sort of PCI violation going on.
Interesting, I hadn't thought along those lines when I wrote that because I was focused on how lax the security was, and not thinking about culpability. I updated the post with a note about that.
