It's really hard to compare Apple and Nvidia, but a bit easier to compare Apple to AMD. My best guess is performance will be similar to a 6700xt. Of course, none of this really matters for gaming if studios don't support the Mac.

You aren't wrong, Apple is able to do this because implementing LPDDR is much more efficient from both a transistor and power consumption point of view, and is actually faster too. The tradeoff is you can't put 8 or 16 dram packages on the same channel like you can with regular DDR, which means that the M1 Max genuinely has a 64 GB limit, while a DDR system with the same bandwidth would be 1 TB. Fortunately for Apple there isn't really a market for a laptop with a TB of RAM.

The apples to apples comparison would be CUDA cores to execution units. Basically how many units which can perform a math operation. Apple's architecture has 128 units per core, so a 32 core M1 Max has the same theoretical compute power as 4096 CUDA cores. This of course doesn't take into consideration clock speed or architectural differences.

Yes, apple's marketing materials claim 400 GB/s, while the 6900 XT is 512 GB/s. This is very easily Googled. While memory bandwidth isn't everything, it is the major bottleneck in most graphics pipelines. An x86 cpu with 3200 MHz memory has about 40 GB/s of bandwidth, which more or less makes high end integrated graphics impossible.

this is mostly wrong. The real issue has always been memory bandwidth. the highest end consumer x86 CPU has about the same memory bandwidth as a dGPU from 10 years ago. The M1 is extremely competitive with modern dGPUs, only a bit behind a 6900 XT.

Does it?

I've been to college, and while there is value there, it's mostly not in the education. Virtually everything important I've learned that is directly applicable to my life and career I either learned in elementary school, learned through experience, or learned myself.

The value in college, at least for me, was its environment, social network, and opportunity network. People underestimate how valuable these things are, and similarly fail to realize just how bad the internet is at all three. Online education is stunningly comprehensive, but the internet is a terrible learning environment, just as it is a terrible social and opportunity environment.

The goal of modern society should be to realize that the qualities which make colleges so good at these things are not fundamentally connected to their curriculum, and can be incorporated into society at large. There is no reason why we couldn't create districts in cities which have the same learning, social, and professional qualities for young people as a university. For certain professions we arguably already do, and that is with literally no coordinated effort to create them.

Imagine if we actually tried.

The M1x will almost certainly have 64 gb support, possibly 128. Apple has left Intel Macs in the lineup for customers who need features that the M1 has not replicated, like large RAM capacity and 10 gb Ethernet. The M1 macs are still better for 90% of customers, but the intention is to only fully phase out Intel Macs in a product line when Apple Silicon is better for 100% of customers, as they did with the Air. The M1x will fill out the remainder of the Macbook Pro and Mac Mini lineup, which requires 64 gb support. It is likely (though not a guarantee) that the M1x will also fill out the entire iMac line (excluding the education M1 iMac they have not yet released). That would require 128 gb support.

People seem to be under the mistaken impression that supporting higher memory capacities is hard. It's not. It's trivial. The only reason the M1 doesn't is because of how it's packaged, and they only chose to package it that way because the products they were intending to replace it with only need 2 memory chips. They did what made sense for the M1, and they will do what makes sense for the M1x.

I think the point is that "pissing off" radicals is more cathartic than useful. What moderate people want is to thwart their ambitions, but ideally de-radicalize them so that they are no longer dangerous people in need of thwarting. The main argument I see against a move like this is that it may temporarily achieve the former but only at the expense of the latter.

Personally, I believe that de-platforming is a useful tool when radicalization is spreading like a contagion, but only if it is applied in a consistent way and with well defined boundaries.

In India, the most common vehicles are not cars, but mopeds/scooters. Unlike cars it is perfectly feasible to have battery swapping as your main/only form of refueling, and have the customers subscribe to your battery swap infrastructure instead of buying the battery. Its far more convenient for customers since you never need to wait to charge your vehicle, and you don't need to worry about having charging stations near your work or at home. This is precisely what gogoro, the most popular e-scooter company in Taiwan does.
