I've rented a 2026 Kia minivan this week for vacation and I can set a cruise control offset of -10 to +10 in steps of 5.(which is kind of funny in isolation, "how much do you want to break the law today?")
Thanks for bringing this up, I'm often lost in a setting with competing voices. I don't strictly need hearing aids but the few times I've had my earbuds in with ambient voice enhancements it's really improved my QoL. Gonna have to look into this more!
I'm not sure I'm ready to learn another language to be honest. After a decade+ of C++ it'd feel like driving on the wrong side of the road and I wouldn't blame any employers who didn't want to take a chance on that :)
Makes me wonder if I've too strongly tied my career to a specific language. However, right now it's not that I'm specifically a C++ programmer, just that the industry (gamedev) is largely C++. I'm sure in for it if that shifts out from under me before I find stable employment though....

Or that now you know what the tradeoffs are and that there is a whole set of things you don't know you don't know! My teen self would have rather built the raised garden bed than used it, so he wouldn't have planned for long term effects (will this weather all seasons well? will these railroad ties leech into the soil and kill me via my veggies? etc)
The thought process was that it's hard for me to _know_ why drugs are bad other than what I've been told and other outside knowledge sources (anecdotes, wikipedia pages, etc). However, wasting time on videogames is something I do often, so I can draw from my own experience in what is "too much" and what the deleterious effects are. It's a much more valuable lesson, because I know exactly what my situation is instead of trying to place myself in a hypothetical.
