If you will be continuing to work remotely and your main concern are time zones, have you considered moving to Latin America? A few countries now have pretty good digital nomad visas; Mexico City is a good option for this.

If you’re set on the US, work for a company that has a subsidiary abroad (Ireland, Canada, India, etc) for a year and then they can get you a US L-1 transfer visa. That way you get past the H-1B lottery. But you will still need continued visa sponsorship until they process a Green Card for you, which can take a decade or more, if they sponsor it at all.

Reading and highlighting is definitely much better on an iPad than a laptop. Writing and web browsing can also be great. Since you already have a laptop, maybe take a look at the iPad Air instead of the Pro, it still supports the Pencil and external devices and USB-C, if you don’t need the power or the 13” display. As others have mentioned, coding on the iPad is really not feasible without some hacky setup (remote dev environments).

How similar is this book to CODE by Charles Petzold? I loved that book because it progressively builds up an imaginary computer using very easy to understand concepts. Even non-technical people can read it to understand how computers work internally.

One of the local flight clubs where I live has a trailer full of gas canisters. Making things accessible has positive unintended consequences. Building curb ramps doesn’t just help people in wheelchairs, it also helps parents with strollers and tourists with luggage. Adding subtitles to videos helps both deaf people and language learners. Making websites usable with a screen reader also makes it easier to build automated tests. Disabilities are also not always permanent or complete; people with low vision can also benefit from screen readers even if not legally blind, for example.

Specifically for technology, you also need to understand the true life changing difference it can make on a disabled person’s life. My dad is blind, and thanks to screen readers on his computer and phone, he can read books, make Zoom calls for work, correspond with people via email and WhatsApp, and so much more. He’s in his 60s too, and technology has allowed him be an independent and productive member of society.

I once worked on exactly this product in Microsoft, called Windows MultiPoint Server. You could buy one computer and plug a bunch of keyboards, mice, and monitors to it so multiple users could use it at the same time. It was aimed at the education market as a way to cut hardware costs. I think it’s now been discontinued as a standalone product though.

Edge on both Android and iOS has Adblock built in and Safari on iOS can have ad blocking very easily enabled with a content blocking app like AdGuard. Firefox is arguably harder to set up for ad blocking than either of these.
