So we're willing to put our greatest national asset (the environment) at risk in the name of "moar power". Well that's just great.

I hope Jimmy Carter's ghost will be just as willing to help us out the next time a reactor goes into meltdown as his physical self was the first time that happened. RIP Jimmy Carter.

Great work. I love it. We need more developers like you.

I have 25 years of experience with a single programming language that’s still in broad modern use. My employer recently moved me to a project that doesn’t use that language. The new language is completely foreign and hard for me to read. BUT we are supposed to maximize our AI usage. I made a few agents and skills to automate workflows, and now I can just say “$do-ticket ABC-1234”, and it gets done using TDD and hands me a report on what changes it made and why, along with an open Pull Request that automatically gets reviewed (again) by Codex. And the code works the first time 98% of the time. I don’t know the language, and it seems like people would prefer that I not know it, because then my AI use is necessarily maximal, but what am I even doing? Just telling AI to do a ticket? I see developer salaries trending toward minimum wage in the near future, and it’s scary, so I’m learning and leveraging LLM stuff, but even that will only help for so long. It’s a crazy time in our industry.

UPDATE!

At around 12:20pm, after hours of trying anything I could, the Desktop version of Facebook Web's Meta AI Support asked me to upload a video selfie. Then it asked me when the issue began, and as soon as I said around 7am this morning, their AI was like "Ah ha!" -- It asked me for my alternate email address, which I provided, and as soon as I clicked a link in that email, I started getting email about Pages being republished, access to Marketplace being restored, etc.

Now: Can I even prevent this from happening in future? How can I make sure everyone has my blog url (or phone number) so they can contact me even if I lose contact with them?

Thank you for your support and concern, despite however dumb my comments in 2009 were. LOL.

HELP?

I woke up to a bunch of notifications on my phone from the past 30-60 mins, indicating that people in in Montreal, Argentina, and Kathmandu had attempted to login to my account, and at least one had succeeded. I'm nowhere near any of those locations, and I didn't get any 2FA messages.

I tapped Instagram, and it asked me for a new password, so I set one, and it just hung and did nothing.

My Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, Threads, and Quest accounts were all permanently disabled. My Quest headset is a brick, too. It said I had violated their terms of service, and there would be no appeals process. No recourse as far as I can tell. I was a member of all of them from year 1 if not day 1.

I use 1Password and complex unique passwords and 2FA religiously. I even had Advanced Account Protection turned on in Facebook. Now it says that my phone number and email are not attached to any known Facebook accounts. I have no idea how this could have happened.

I couldn't care less about using social networks as social networks, but I have hundreds of people on there that I have no other contact info for, and I'm a member of many groups that don't exist anywhere else.

Moments ago, I was able to login to Instagram, presumably because that password change did actually work, eventually, so I'm trying to make some headway there, but trying to find & access Meta Customer Support is impossible, especially when I can't get into the main Meta Account that everything is tied to.

If you or anyone you know have any clue what to do about this, please let me know.

- Some people cannot communicate via written text. At all. - Other people always prefer voice over text. Why should our preferences trump theirs? - Text is low bandwidth, audio/video is high bandwidth (in that it can convey emotions & tonality much more easily) - People are much more open with issues they're encountering when face-to-face. Text is too impersonal for that.

I am a senior php dev, and I was recently transferred to a Ruby on Rails project. It's completely foreign to me. Our client has advised us to use LLMs as much as possible. The problem is that it's virtually impossible to learn a codebase when you're using AI to do the coding. You never see more than a few lines of code at a time unless you purposefully dig in, but you might not have the time given velocity demands. And yes, it also results in nobody on the team really knowing any area of the code inside-out. It's very very different from my previous 25 years of coding, and I do enjoy it less, but...

>>It (software development) is sincerely an art form; A craft that takes >>dedication, perseverance and especially, a strong community to endure. >>Software was built by humans, for humans.

100 years ago, you could only buy furniture made by crafts people. Real artisans. Now you have a choice: IKEA or hand made Most people choose IKEA because they don't care how it was made, as long as it does the job There are still those who prefer hand made furniture, and they pay a pretty penny for it. I think that's where this is heading, and I agree it's unfortunate. Software development will become a hobby (many people do wood working in their spare time). There will be a few real experts left, who largely do consulting. Maybe they create training data? Maybe they design frameworks for the AI to master. I don't know. But things sure are going to be different from here on out, and not entirely for the better.

>>If it’s not built by humans, then who is it being built for?

Right now it's built by AI for humans (and sometimes other AI). Very soon it'll be built by AI for other AI (and sometimes humans). Later it'll be built by AI primarily for AI (rarely humans).

You let it? It really wanted to, but you kept denying it until you finally gave in and let it?

I didn’t even know it was available to opt-in to! Probably why adoption wasn’t great.

I wonder how many users would prefer to have full page reloads (aka traditional server-side rendering) when navigating instead of all the insane http requests and ads we have today?

Given that OpenClaw isn’t a lot of code, Apple could still build their own. After all, a hyper-personal AI Assistant is what they announced as “Apple Intelligence” two WWDCs ago. Or the could buy OpenClaw, hand it to the Shortcuts team, throw in their remaining AI devs, and Bob’s your uncle. They aren’t first to OpenClaw, but maybe they can still be the best. I know I’d like to be sure it can’t erase my entire disk just because i sneeze when I’m telling it what to do.

I don't think about anyone at the cafe, unless I start chatting with someone. I just take a physical book with me, crack it open, and read as I sip my coffee. I keep a notepad nearby in case I have good ideas while reading. I may get a refill. When I've read enough, I leave. It's 100% relaxing for me.
