You and I have had very different experiences with Hipchat. The search is terrible, the integrations are worse, the mobile app hardly ever sends me notifications when it should, there's almost no customizability, the native app randomly drops messages. For me, Slack isn't hype, it's simply a better product.
I like this resource specifically because it's such a large list. If I'm exploring a new topic (e.g. styling react components), I want to have a lot of articles to look through. Google doesn't cut it at all for me in situations like that.
