But there is no competition. The company that is using subcontractors has a law-sustained monopoly and political connections. Of course they just need to look for the cheapest guys.
We seriously need a (law compatible) system to punish lawmakers, in a way that they would never even think to touch basic rights like freedom of speech. Having a constitution or a democracy is clearly not enough. That's the next step for a just world.
Nytimes complains about suicides, but then it also promote policies and politicians that are causing the suicides and destroying our socities.
Some of the policies are: uncontrolled immigration from poor countries bringing crime and causing social distrust. Laws that close the market and give few companies a lot of bargaining power, forcing people to move around like cattle and also making almost impossible to create good economies in towns. Laws that give sociopaths the ability to bring functioning human being in courts for stupid reasons and win, making people not trusting their neighbors. Divorce laws that destroy families. Anti-family propaganda that pushes people to destroy their family at the first difficulties.
These things, and many others, make really difficult to create a well-connected society, and people eventually kill themselves because it's really bad out there where you get a little off the track set by thr State and its puppetters.
So, nytimes should know very well that this is not an existential crisis, it's the result of something they supported for a very long time.
Europe has a bigger population than the US, it should have a lot more startups, but politicians, bureaucrats, existing rules, etc make the economy too unstable and incapable of welcoming new player.
People here have learned to aspire for the 9-5 job and can't even imagine that problems are solved by entrepeneurs and not the government.
Been a freelancer for 10 years, I got really good at socializing. I think when you are forced to interact with others you develop passive-aggressive patterns, build up stress, machiavellianism and so on.
I can also see how people who work fulltime often don't have the energy for anything but alcohol. Meanwhile I do all sorts of things with other high energy people. I am not trained in corporate socialization or other weird stuff. So, I'm great.
I am talking about comments. Of course I can be wrong about this situation since it's basically gut feeling and perceptions. Still, aside from the votes, there have been some really weird comments in this thread too, something that just doesn't feel it can align with how a programmer or entreprenur would express himself.
Sorry if I'm sharing my emotions.
I think there are EU paid shills on HackerNews now. They do exist. I've also noticed they downvote anti-EU post en masse after they've been posted for some time (I have multiple throwaway). Sorry for the tin foil, but it's not normal that when a post is anti-EU it gets upvoted at first and then it suddently falls into oblivion in a short amount of time, like someone suddently noticed. That's not a normal pattern for upvotes/downvotes on these kind of boards.
Honestly it's sad that ycombinators, and many other private companies, have to deal with State-paid actors that influence discussions on their boards.
I'm also not really happy I have to write such inflamatory posts, but while I know I don't have proof I can't stop myself in revealing what I suspect.
In any case we're reaching another point in history where we will soon have to fight for basic human rights in western countries. And when these times come it means that as there are victims there are persecutors. Good times ahead.
