SelfControl, LeechBlock, and uBlock Origin because they are effective tools that help reduce distractions and improve productivity, as supported by various studies published in peer-reviewed journals. Every system will frustrate you. Nothing ever works 100% all the time, well except OpenBSD. But that’s because it’s such a tiny system.
Mac is way less frustrating than Windows, but not all Linux apps are available on Mac. If you use gpg on mac, be prepared for a lot of annoyances. On Linux it was more stable. Another thing that is missing is the i3 window manager. Virtualization limits you to modern systems, as there is the M1 chip.
Use whatever saves you the most time, we only have one lifetime
All of it is entertainment. Only email is serious, so I block everything during work hours. On dns level, router level and on app level, so it’s to much work to unblock. Then I usually decide to fet away from computer, because long hours sitting are bad for posture. While not perfect, it’s how we naturally deal with most of the world, we ignore it. Like how we only see 10% of what are our eyes see, at most. Some apps to install: self control (mac), leech block (ffox), etc. You can also decide computer is only for work, and block everything at so many levels it’s to much work to unblock.
I tried the other approach, buying some websites. It can be good but can change quickly. I’d invest money in boring business now that generate cash flow, but yes it can be pricey. Maybe there is some middle ground like renting a car, airbnb etc
Food diet, less sugar, fat. Eat more cacao, but with few sugar. Listen calming music. Make exercise. Block news and stressful information. Get rid of smartphone and social media
Id buy a more simple business. Online websites are like casinos. Who still uses myspace or altavista? Laundromat, cleaning business or something like that, that almost never goes wrong. Then with the stable income do the risky investments
Russia and Turkey are not part of the West because they have distinct cultural and historical legacies that have shaped their societies in different ways. Russia has been influenced by Eastern Orthodoxy and communism, which emphasizes communal identity and submission to authority, and has a long history of autocratic rule. This has led to a political culture that values obedience to the state over individual rights and freedoms. Similarly, Turkey has been shaped by its Islamic heritage and its Ottoman past, which has fostered a collectivist and authoritarian ethos that is at odds with the individualistic and democratic values of the West.
