The "enshittification" hasn't happened yet. They'll add ads and other gross stuff to the free or cheap tiers. Some will continue to use it, but there will be an opportunity for self-hosted models to emerge.
I absolutely adore TextMate, but it hasn't kept up. It will often fail to respond to the `mate` terminal command, or it will take many seconds to start even on my mostly vanilla M4 Max.
This is precisely why DAs are elected officials. It's supposed to work this way, in theory. The people vote in the officials who enforce the laws in the manner they wish. In practice, DA elections seem totally ignored.
The problem is lack of voting and civic engagement.
Hey thanks for Magic Lasso. I've had it installed for years. Only after starting my app library from fresh did I realize how much I missed it (and it took me quite a while to figure out and remember that it was magiclasso doing the heavy lifting - easy to install and forget!)
This is manifested as "far lands" in java editions of minecraft. Location away from origin gets out to precision limitations in floats resulting in jittering and other rendering oddities
I bought 2 smart TVs recently and was able to turn all this BS off by simply not accepting the privacy policies during setup. Of course this means you can't use the built-in netflix apps or check for software updates or whatever but that's fine by me. I left both on my network for a period of time as well to check (via DPI) and indeed neither one was actually doing anything on the network other than pinging a software-update server every few days.
