Hydro has a natural limit. After you have put a dam to every river that’s it. And the Swiss aint far from that.

There are also cloudy days without much wind, and those are quite harsh during winter.

What should one do then? Just shut everything down?

Is there any need for that? Just have a few good CPUs there and you’re good to go.

As for how the HW looks like we already know. Look at Strix Halo as an example. We are just getting bigger and bigger integrated GPUs. Most of the flops on that chip is the GPU part.

In C/C++ land the kind of ”Just try and see if it works” kind of development is super common in proprietary software. Leading to issues such as:

Using volatile for threadsafe stuff. Arm has weaker memory model than X86 so it requires barriers. C++ standard threading lib handles this for you but not everyone uses it.

Memory alignment. Arm tends to be more critical of that. While it’s impossible for well formed C++ program to mess it up it’s quite common for people just go ”Hey it’s just a number” and go full yolo with it. Because hey, it works on their machine.

The relative bandwidth in ultasound is immense conpared to radar etc where a relatively narrow bandwidth is used. As an example one of our probes in university days was something like from 5 to 30MHz. Doesn't save much if we would mix it down that 5. Instead of 60MHz ADC we would need 50MHz. Not worth it.
