It's amazing to watch the amount of mental contortions you're going through. I guess it's very important for you to maintain the consistency of your current worldview, and seeing the likes of Shkreli in a negative light is an integral part of that. Ayn Rand would be proud.
This is an astroturfing article meant to hypnotize the reader into thinking fiat currency controlled by private banks is a good thing. Its purpose was to normalize this idea of money and grease the tracks for the Federal Reserve Act that would be rammed through congress a few months later.
Please enlighten us, what are the health benefits of swallowing sodium silicofluoride and hydrofluorosilicic acid?
Edit: Just to be clear, you shouldn't assume that my comment being gray means it was unanimously downvoted. I saw it losing three points for every two gained, meaning roughly 40% of HN shares my curiosity.
Apple's latest Magic Keyboard is an atrocious piece of garbage whose keys are so sensitive that they trigger when you breathe on them. Apparently Tim Cook thought it would be a good idea to make this the only keyboard you can buy from Apple and cancel the old model that humans could actually use. I bought one of the older ones from Amazon and now I get to worry that it's going to be a counterfeit that phones all my keystrokes home to China. Nice world we're building here.
Teams are spontaneously disbanded and their projects are moved to other countries because it prevents people who share the same allegiance or ideology that runs counter to Google's from conspiring to hide "accidental" exploitable bugs in the code which could later be used to damage the company. The project gets audited by the next team's fresh eyes and if an exploit is found then it is patched and can be traced back to the moles who can then be monitored or fired. Rinse and repeat until launch.
I can't tell whether the people in this thread claiming this will be the downfall of China are serious. Do you really believe that, or do you just want it to be true because you're afraid of China?
I attempted to list every plausible reason someone would ever invoke Hanlon's razor. My goal is partially to illustrate how ridiculous Hanlon's razor is.
Let me add another to the list. People like to invoke Hanlon's razor to signal how smart they are for knowing what Hanlon's razor is.
Can you provide one actual good reason to use Hanlon's razor, ever? You seem to think he had a good reason that I've missed. What is it?
Hanlon's razor is an intellectually dishonest way to prematurely end a discussion and claim you're right without any evidence. The next time I steal 10,000 BTC from a bitcoin exchange I'm hired to code for, remind me to crawl sites for discussions about the incident so I can throw the term "Hanlon's razor" around and demoralize the seeds of investigation before they sprout.
Why would you ever feel compelled to invoke Hanlon's razor? Are you not intrigued by the possibility of malice? Is it so painful to speculate? Does it frighten you to think you might live in a world where bad things happen because people actually do them on purpose most of the time and lie to cover it up? What bothers you about this so much that you don't even want to begin to talk about it? Other than that, I see no reason to suffocate a discussion with Hanlon's razor unless you are affiliated with or secretly rooting for the possibly guilty party.
I haven't entered a dealership since 2010 and part of me was holding onto hope that most of these "upgrades" were optional. This thread is confirming my fear that I'll never be able to find a new car worth buying again no matter how much money I bring to the table.
