To do it right we have to dispense with old ideas about why we’re doing it to whittle down what to preserve.

We don’t need to preserve every cat picture and vacation moment, just enough geometric and color data to replicate them. Same with text.

Deduplicate to an essential data model of knowledge and algorithms to boot strap that into a useful state.

Stable Diffusion runs in a browser on a phone. I have no doubt we can get a “bigger model” out of a tiny model and a few algorithms that will hydrate it and update its state based upon a context. But IT is too literal to serve “business” so we end up with the janky mess you called out.

So in summary; a rethink of our economic approach to keeping people busy, and compressed, deduplicated model that fits on a phone, with hardware and software that know to get what the user asks for out of this small hash.

That’s what all the ML is leading to. It’s just like I said; IT is a boring industry to serve business traditions. Intentionally: https://www.escapistmagazine.com/Bobby-Kotick-Wants-to-Take-...

I’m not that smart and figured this out. Asked a colleague with a PhD in math working at MS who was all wink and nudge at me. The “smarter people” know what’s up and want to be the first one there. Then under politically correct traditions it’s “their property.”

It’s not that hard to conceive; all information displayed on a machine is 2D geometry and games simulate 3D through well understood perspective and color theory. We just need a model that captures all the coordinates of our text and those perspective shifts and color compositions.

But to get there you need social change to avoid the loop you say you’re tired of but no one else does. Good luck.

Tbh I thought that was the entire play. $1 billion is way cheaper than $44 and whatever he just sold of Tesla to keep Twitter afloat.

Jack hyping Elon as twitter’s great hope and such I almost expected this was some subtle game to get that $1 billion to Twitter

Now I can’t help but wonder if Jack was tweeting such praise to goad Elons ego into it. But in hindsight I’m probably giving these guys too much credit

The first fired employees too, imo. If it all goes up in flames those that remain might get to keep their laptop.

There’s no sense believing he has power and influence. I’ve never heard of him? What power and influence? What paper named NYT?

Do you understand how to deal with figurative displays of power? They’re not going to come after us if we actively promote the idea they’re actually weak and useless.

Turn public sentiment against the idea of ephemeral power and value stores.

The same goes for non visual things.

I don’t goto YT to be mesmerized by their algorithm.

I am having more fun making content with OpenCV than anything I’ve done at a cloud job in 10 years.

Fingers crossed open ML implodes the tech labor industry by empowering owners of actual hardware rather than a bunch of middle men employees

A man wielding so much power and influence I’ve never heard of them.

Start a campaign against them.

Oh that’s right it’s on everyone else to organize as you desire.

Paranoid delusions of the anti-social crowd is all this rambling adds up to.

Right sure no one on Twitter has an angle to push with vague statements

I mishear or take things out of context all the time. I’m sure this random Twitter person is not misremembering.

You’re being played emotionally.

The expectation was tech is being juiced by cheap money and it was proven out.

None of the big tech CEOs except perhaps Cook, have presented a future vision to put people on. They’re making money with price increases and staff reductions. Tech deserves to be dumped on hard, as it was government funded socialism squandered.

They’re not superstars but typical middle managers. Being good with computers is not what it used to be in this economy.

What are all these laid of workers going to do? Start dotcoms? Been there, done that is not going to sway the public.

You live in a filter bubble.

Your anecdote is not an immutable truth but a memory of an intentional political act and training.

Very different early education can make a huge difference. But when you start out decades ago with a bunch of inept adults making an angry mess of their country, you get as you describe.

Stop living in your memory as if it’s physical law and not the result of shit leadership.

Yes best to have full shelves of stuff that’s too expensive to buy

By government you mean a handful of legislators.

The public has been treating their Senators and Representatives like celebrities.

Electoral turnovers flush corruption; we really need to stop being ruled by pudding brains with no skin in the future game who LARP concern while doing nothing but living easy: https://www.nber.org/papers/w29766
