The point is how much non-vision sensors vs pure vision, helps humans to be humans. Don't you think this point was proven by LLMs already that generalizability doesn't come from multi-modality but by scaling a single modality itself? And jepa is for sure designed to do a better job at that than an LLM. So no doubt about raw scaling + RL boost will kick-in highly predictable & specific robotic movements.

have few thoughts on this, esp after working in voice AI since couple of years

1. > "What’s the voice equivalent of a thumbs-up or a keyboard shortcut?" Current ASR systems are much narrow in terms of just capturing the transcript. there is no higher level of intelligence, even the best of GPT voice models fail at this. Humans are highly receptive of non-verbal cues. All the uhms, ahs, even the pauses we take is where the nuance lies.

2. the hardware for voice AI is still not consumer ready interacting with a voice AI is still doesn't feel private. i am only able to do a voice based interaction only when am in my car. sadly at other places it just feels a privacy breach as its acoustically public. have been thinking about a private microphones to enable more AI based conversations.

there seems to be a common theme around not believing in the idea/product/people too deeply, thus leading to faulty or mis-step execution. would it be right to say that? a contrast to others who are not a "failure"?

mad respect to you for being open. thanks for sharing.

yeah well his 2024 "predictions" were nothing but regression to mean

this almost seems like win-win, leonardo ends up as amassing compute and licensed data and canva gets to expand their revenue by offering better a stack for image gen, what am i missing though?

imo most of the software play is going to be an infra play where the max of value is being provided/captured by the big tech

there will def be some opportunities for mid-tier software(not necessarily saas) companies where they end up leveraging either some niche distribution or some neat packaging.

another ray of hope is - distribution takes time, there is a long cycle of adoption for any new tech. currently we are in "the chasm" and some of us(us being software builders) will end up benefitting from a long adoption curves. but i have my doubts if it's a vc backed thing as it will be a slow cycle.

> Software has been and always will be fundamentally a problem of communication.

its a problem of communication with a system. that system can be a human, a group of humans, some esoteric knowledge graph, internet or even a single webpage. i believe the author here is focusing on generative UIs from a software developer standpoint. this is just one form of interaction/communication and could be wrong to be generalized across scenarios.

i have been thinking about highly lossless and efficient forms of communication between a human and a system. keep converging to voice agents where if they feel alot human(something similar to the hume demo) then it can be the default mode of how a human interacts with a system. again, this will be a specific setting and sounds more consumer-ish. a clear contrast to what the author intends to write.

I see alot of new founders just jumping into AI cause it's cool, all of them should give a read to get the reality of being an "AI startup"

AI's matching hit rates in drug discovery is a game-changer. It's like AlphaFold just gave us the GPS coordinates for the biochemical treasure we've been blindly digging for. LSD's serotonin link and the quest for similar, safer compounds?

Founder of dubverse.ai here. As someone who has done production level TTS(deployed on India's largest news network) I can say there is alot of room for improvement in terms of intelligibility. Most of these open source toolkits/models offer only a certain quality of TTS which is IMO good to play around with but damn too tough to make it sound studio-quality

i think this type of beaming tech would be a prior to dyson sphere

dyson sphere still needs a lot of huge engineering upgrades at scale

in order to reach there humanity will have go to through series of such mega scale projects

> How’s AI going to do that better than a fellow human?

The idea of AI getting better than a fellow human is flawed at the definition itself. Instead of focusing of AI being generally better than a fellow human we should look at how AI gets better at specific tasks to start with and then go from one task to another making it more "intelligent/better".

This is already happening since industrial revolution freeing up humanity's bandwidth from the mundane tasks, so nothing new when it comes for managerial level tasks.
