Yeh I totally agree. I’d go one step further and say even if one of these models cured cancer it’s still only going to have done it in a computer-y way doing computer stuff. Can that same model experience a beautiful landscape and convey its emotions in an evocative way, could it tell how you’re feeling when you come back from work after a hard day? Could it hop on one leg? What the hell even is AGI and how does it differ from GI? I don’t know what we’re even talking about any more!
I’m not talking about a dump valve, I’m talking about an ALS as I’ve mentioned. This is where the engine timing is delayed which results in some combustion to happen in the exhaust (hence literal pops). This is used to keep the turbo spooled by MAINTAINING pressure across the system. It’s a performance system.
If your dump valve is popping I think there’s something wrong!

The only thing I can really think of is a turbo Anti Lag System that you can get in top-end consumer cars like Mercedes AMGs. It’s that popping you hear when coming off the throttle, you’ll also hear it in rally cars. The funny thing is, the same popping can happen with any car if the timing is off so you sometimes get kids driving around with misfiring engines cause it “sounds cool” even though their car might not even have a turbo fan! It’s one of those things that if they were actually passionate about these machines they’d know they look like idiots, but they’re not so they do.

At this point it’s basically a risk to buy anything new from a large company who’s products are most likely worse than ever in terms of cost-cutting materials, build quality, and design.
The “you’re doing it wrong” argument doesn’t float for me here. I see this as kind of scammy and it’s got that vibe of producing complexity to obscure in an area that is really meant to be the simpler solution to rolling your own hardware.
People are always so laser focussed on the latest trendy thing, but why not just boycott all huge corporations/organisations? It’s a much simpler rule that achieves the same thing and you have the added benefit of boycotting companies that haven’t had their corruption uncovered… yet!
There’s a really simple way that will protect you from any current or future corruptions/profit before people behaviour: don’t buy anything from any large corporations.
If you do this you also benefit from giving your money to real people and not contributing to huge amounts of waste and pollution.
Why don’t you look it up instead of guessing? I mean even on the surface level, for me, exploring space is the most “science and discovery” thing you can do!

You come over from the other end of the playground, try to understand the situation the best you can… and start throwing fists at the kid you think is wrong?

We have mind blowing technology that is optimised for death and destruction but you don’t reckon we can, like, maybe just ASK the people what they want? Nobody ever asks. Nobody talks.
Everyone’s sold this skewed reality that bombing people is the only way we can resolve conflict and you’ve been sold it by massive companies that make bombs.

Yeh. I mean your comment kind of reads like the whole thing is simple and Russia just randomly invaded Ukraine 4 years ago for no reason. Rather than there being rising pro-Russian sentiment in the east for years resulting in an all out civil war 12 years ago when the government went after the separatists.
Then you say well they were Russian backed so Russia were involved from the beginning.
Then I say well, where were these separatists born, what language do they speak, and how do they identify?

Then I say what I said in the beginning which was maybe if you’re not actually there, and involved, you should stay out of other people’s shit.
I’m finding this a lot. I always found the scrutiny of Trump to be quite over the top and never really found him to be any more corrupt or awful than any other politician, just that he was openly anti establishment. Which is what I guessed was the reason for the hyper scrutiny. I ask some people about Iraq and Afghanistan and they never really seem to know as much or have as much detail as they do with how illegal this Iran war is. I find that odd and have maybe chalked it up to this over-scrutiny again. To be clear I actually think this is good. I feel like we might finally be looking at politicians with the amount of scrutiny we need to, but am not optimistic it will continue when the next pro-establishment character is installed. People also seem to be on board with the Ukraine war, which I also understand but find strange that fighting wars on foreign soil are sometimes “good” and sometimes “bad”? For me I have a simple rule; if they’re not at the birder of my own country I’m not interested. You can argue details and complexities but the way I see it is that wars are a fucking mess and there are lots of complexities that can be used to sell you either way. If you’re not there, you don’t know. I always wonder if France and the UK hadn’t declared war on Germany, would WWII ever happened? It’s an interesting one and more of a thought experiment but the implications are interesting and raises some very touchy moral questions. It’s basically a massive trolley problem question with lots of unknowns.
