Sometimes it is analogous, such as creating a new internal product and trying to get internal customers. The best part is if the effort fails I still keep my job and salary. On the other hand if it succeeds I can get a promotion and raise. Much less risk than real world startup, and better expected payoff.

No I am not arguing for a trade school approach. My impression from 4 years of undergrad and 4 years of graduate studies is the material in my classes could be much better focused around the key questions that created the topic in the first place and why it is important. And this would significantly reduce the content in the classes, while making it more accessible to a larger audience.

Also, while not reducing academia to a trade school, there are non faddish stable practical skills that should also be taught in an academic setting much more.

My ideal curriculum would maintain fundamental results that are not directly practical, like proofs of the halting problem, no free lunch, and np completeness, to delimit the realm of the possible. It would also teach practical skills around systems programming and software development, and well established widely used protocols.

Comp Eng PhD here. The fields can indeed be dramatically compressed. Lots of trivia obscure the main points in each comp sci topic.

It is not individual Darwinism but social Darwinism. They think they are part of a superior race, and so it does not matter as much what happens to them individually.

It's a twisted tautology. They are the ones shooting, which makes them in their mind the predator and superior being.

Then at least they isolate themselves, and have less ability to radicalize anyone besides the true believers. A number of isolated extremist cells are probably also easier to deal with for law enforcement, and these weird beliefs will stand out more to others in a social setting if they become rare.

Also, it seems like the group egging them on motivates these shooters. Tragically seems related to internet likes. So, by deflating the social network surrounding these ideas, there will be less social motivation to carry out such horrible actions.

And, finally, people have a social concept of truth, and if such ideas are considered to only be fringe crazy ideas instead of consistent with mainstream Darwinian theory, then people will be less likely to believe such ideas are true and less likely to act on them. As it is, social Darwinism seems to be one of those unpleasant truths due to the social weight given to the idea. Such social weight needs to be eradicated.

A lot of these mass shooters (and a number of serial killers) quote social Darwinism nonsense as inspiration. I wonder why that ideological portion is not being dealt with more. I hear social Darwinism ideas fairly frequently in everyday conversations with people, like casual lunch conversations.

I too had fallen prey to the anti-Soro propaganda, thinking he raided rich Jewish houses as a child. Appears from the article this is incorrect.
