I don't think you're being weird. I do think you are conditioned by brilliant marketing.
My Decision Making class did a taste test last quarter. The professor poured some Pepsi into 5 cups, and then poured some Coke into 5 cups, and then invited a student to do a taste test. Before the test began, she indicated a strong preference for Pepsi; then, after each cup, she was asked to indicate whether it was Coke or Pepsi.
The result? She choose Pepsi/Coke with exactly 50% accuracy. Go figure.
I love Colloquy! It's a great app. The only change I would like made is to have some way of disabling all of the popups (though I think that's due to some Mac OS X extension I have installed). Anyway, I just bought the IRC iPhone app to support ya guys.

There is also a lot of evidence contradicting the Whorf hypothesis. In <The Language Instinct> by Steven Pinker, Pinker suggests that humans think with separate thought-modules and then only express the substance of thoughts through arbitrary languages.
That being said, I think there is something to be said for diversity of culture, and perhaps better more fluid translation services are the true solution.

You have to ask someone to watch your laptop. I'm a psych major, and there was a study that demonstrated that people have a _much_ higher rate of deterring thieves when asked to look after someone's items, for some reason.
Or, get a laptop with built in GPS and 3G internet, and hack the firmware to autoemail you the location on boot-up.
HN is still very slow for me... the top orange toolbar always loads quickly on the homepage, but then the stories take ~10seconds to load...it's annoying.
