I feel that can only happen at tech companies, where there is a high demand for specialized workers, and not enough qualified people to fill the gap. As soon as this type of work becomes a commodity, those benefits will disappear.

Maybe not only tech companies but knowledge workers in general?

That's right. Actually is just offer and demand. I think it gets worse as much AI gets smarter and this positions become more and more specific.
