Crystal Linux. It is a arch based OS which means you get to take advantage of the huge amount of packages in the AUR with the added benefit of being easy to install and sensible defaults.

It comes with amethyst (`ame`) as AUR helper pre-installed, which is also in my opinion the best AUR helper out right now (and it's written in Rust!).

Automatic BTRFS snapshots before package upgrades have saved my butt once already and I couldn't live without them.

100% recommended

This may be an unusual recommendation but a music subscription service such as Spotify, Tidal or Apple Music.

Music helps me personally to be way more productive when working on IT problems.

I remember in high school our teacher showing us enthusiastically a documentary about Gorbachev.

It was unbelievable how he managed to end the iron curtain and come closer to the west at a time at which it was thought to be impossible.

Trurely commendable. It is sad to see how Putin nullifies all of his effort and that he had to witness it now shortly before his death.

May he rest in peace.

GitArena is a GitHub/Gitea/GitLab clone written in Async Rust using Tokio and Actix-Web on the backend and server-rendered HTML with htmx for interactivity.

I commented on the "Who wants to be hired?" thread of this month with this being my main portfolio show-off project. It worked and I have gotten already 2 job offers now.

Hello! I'm Mari. I'm a self-taught software developer and have spent the past 10 years programming in my free time, mostly working on my own projects and contributing to open-source. I am currently working in retail and looking for a job as a software engineer in order to turn my passion into a living and getting a foothold in the industry.

My latest and greatest project I've recently been building is GitArena (https://github.com/mellowagain/gitarena), a software development platform similiar to the likes of GitHub, GitLab and Gitea. It features built-in vcs on top of Git and issue tracking, mostly focused on being able to be self hosted. It is written in Async Rust using Actix-Web running on the Tokio async runtime and PostgreSQL as persistent database. On the frontend it uses server rendered HTML with interactivity built in Vanilla JS and htmx. It also uses Semantic UI for CSS styling.

Thanks to my existing experience in retail, I'm very good at analyzing customer needs and can thus work efficiently on building and shipping customer-orientated solutions. I'm looking to take advantage of this in my future career.

This is honestly not a big deal in Switzerland. Almost everyone here uses messengers such as WhatsApp or Telegram.

I personally never had any SMS/MMS contact with any person in the past two years since I've had my phone.

What people need to understand is that once Swisscom decides something, people are going to migrate. Swisscom disabled the 2G network at the start of 2021 and people which still had old "dumb" phones migrated either over to smart or feature phones, which both support messengers such as WhatsApp.

Swisscom realized this and is now getting rid of a feature that was practically unused, making their tech stack simpler. Totally understandable and most likely not a big loss for anyone except a few.

This has nothing to do with OP's problem but I figured this may be a good place to post about my bad experience with LastPass back in 2019:

When I moved to Bitwarden, I have deleted my account on LastPass. I have received a confirmation email regarding my account which states [0]:

> Your LastPass account has been permanently deleted and all of your data has been purged from our systems.

A few months later I receive a email stating that my premium subscription is expiring [1]. Clearely my account was not actually permanently deleted from their systems. Considering LastPass is a service used for storing passwords, I think this is unacceptable. How am I sure that they also still don't have my passwords that I had saved in their account?

I reached out to them via Twitter when this happened (because that is apparently how you get support in this day of age) and only then I was told that my account was actually deleted. I still have no way of verifying if this is in fact true or not.
