BLM has a convicted terrorist in charge of fundraising and does “administrative work”.
> As of 2020, Rosenberg serves as vice chair of the board of directors of Thousand Currents, a non-profit foundation that sponsors the fundraising and does administrative work for the Black Lives Matter global network

The actual organisation is extremely toxic, I don't disagree. As a social movement I think it exposes a real problem but did it in an awful way.
My prediction is we won't see much of them until 2024.

Indeed. A Google Trends search of "black lives matter" shows a clear spike in 2016, then flat until 2020.

Lmao yeah like all the terrorists that stormed the capitol.
Given this logic, we should charge all ppl with guns and other stock piles who wave confederate flags as potential terrorists who want to overthrow the government too?
At least her cause seemed legit (racism). Also she is reformed now? Still a terrorist though I guess, just like all those neo-nazis who are "reformed".
Edit: I realize I'm being biased here, but trying to point out your own (strawman) bias lol.

All protests can attract bad actors that take advantage of the emotion and pain. This is honestly a non-sequitur argument unless you apply it to the "other side" as well.
I'm sure the owners of thousands of business premises destroyed by BLM will sleep well at night knowing the worlds most useless prize is being awarded to BLM.
Nobel "mostly peaceful" Prize
Eric Weinstein called it:

The world has lost its collective mind.
Like I said a few months ago, Scihub's Alexandra Elbakyan should be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
She leads a magnificent effort in democratizing, disincentivizing and decentralizing science, opening up untold possibilities for everyone around the world.
Bill Gates the billionaire philanthropist who has all the tools in hand to do the same, is just too damn greedy and too damn stupid to realize that liberating science presents the biggest opportunity for humanity in history.

trump, putin, hitler, and stalin were all nominated for peace prizes at some point

Trump was nominated because he brought more middle east leaders to the table for peace than any president in recent memory. Stalin and Hitler murdered gajillions. So, what's your point? If it's that Trump did things not considered peaceful, despite the peace inducing actions, then why not call out Obama for the drone bombing of Anwar Al-Awlaki, a US citizen? And Obama GOT a peace prize.
To be clear - my point is not to endorse the Trump peace prize nomination, or even to make this a Trump vs Obama debate. My only gripe here is this constant inclusion of Trump as a villain, of Hitler caliber. It's not a generally accepted premise, so let's stop using it as one.

Wow how many HN users went straight to hyperbolic comparisons to the worst people in history and conflating protests with conceptual activism.
Call the kettle black though eh.
PS: BLM manifesto was legit. Any of you actually read it?

Remember that being nominated doesn't mean much, so don't start the political lamentations just yet. A Norwegian MP nominated BLM. Another Norwegian MP nominated Trump. (I'm not saying they won't win, I'm just suggesting that we try to avoid the angry sarcasm until they do.)
Good for them. Though I worry about the wasted potential of recent BLM protests. As soon as there began to be consensus about police violence and a need for reform, activists pivoted to a “defund the police” message. Whatever policy merits this might have, it created a missed opportunity to reform qualified immunity. The conversation pivoted from focus on real police violence to canceling anyone offering constructive critique of the movement (like David Shor).
So instead of having an ongoing conversation about police violence, activists are caught in a purity spiral to weed out dissent that won’t solve any problems.

Note that many people have been nominated, even Hitler, but curiously when the committee was in the perfect position to recognize Ghandi, they declined to nominate anyone, stating that that “there was no suitable living candidate”. IMO the Nobel committee has zero credibility.

Woah, I had to look that up. Nominated 12 times, never won. Jaw dropping.

> He dismissed criticism that BLM is violent, citing data that shows 93% of Black Lives Matter demonstrations do not cause serious harm to people or property.
That also means at least 7% of demonstrations did... cities were burning for months. There's even a video of a BLM protester outright executing a Trump supporter in the street.
