I mean this is the beginning of what seems like a massive, probably international effort, to figure out what happened and who's responsible. Russia is known to be involved in state sponsored cyber intrusions, so it's natural the initial speculation would gravitate in their direction; But it could very well be from within the US borders, or some other nation entirely. That's what the investigation(s) will try to figure out.
From now until that day, I will simply assume nothing.
This could be seen as setting the stage for something worse down the line... Come the week before inauguration day, and Biden still hasn't "proven" (whatever proven means to Trump anyway) the 80M votes... what will Trump do? refuse to leave because his stipulation wasn't met?
Single Point of Failure... is a phrase we'll be hearing and conversing about a lot more in the coming years.
As SaaS, Cloud Providers, and Other Tech companies solidify their necessity for the function of everything else... aka centralization around 4-5 tech companies which their infrastructure literally runs everything else.
It only stands to make us more and more vulnerable as a society.
It's like having one power station powering the entire electrical grid, monumentally stupid.
all they're doing is curating a list for people to read. It's like those DMCA lists of free movie sites. They literally provide you with a trove of urls to watch free movies lol
The fact they didn't let the fetus grow really fucking sucks. Sure, ethics most definitely has its name etched on the science stone.
But people WILL without a shred of doubt recreate this experiment, and they most likely won't be as ethically inclined as the nice folks behind this paper.
The point am trying to make here is that we need to be prepared to deal with how a discovery like could influence our future. The best way to do that is to know what expect with enough time ahead to react.
And yeah sure people will say this is just an excuse for morbidly curious people like me to simply see what happens, and while I'm literally brimming in desire to know myself, theres a bigger picture, bearing witness is just a perk:)
Well I mean all it takes is a better offer, and all you need for that is more money. Wouldn't necessarily call it influence but yeah, it's still crazy either way.
Those same guidelines were echoed by the CDC because of the PPE shortages caused by people mass buying masks and such. So they understandably designed those past guidelines to prioritize health workers who had a higher viral load than probably any of us experience from day to day activities, mask or not.
But now that masks are common place, the guidelines were evolved to reflect the new reality.
From now until that day, I will simply assume nothing.
