Just last month Bruce Schneier wrote an article about this exact topic, about groups performing organization doxxing potentially modifying some of the documents before release and how these changes could be made undetectable.

We had a famous leak with forged data a few years ago in France. It was the Clearstream affair. A listing of people involved in wrongdoings was leaked to judges, containing name of senior politicians, including Nicolas Sarkozy. It was later proven to be a forgery and it helped him develop a taste for conspiracy theories among his followers.
