The author just wanted a way to jump on the Ukraine bandwagon. Don't read too much into it. This is pretty much what the standard for "science" journalism has become.
The chane in this “feeling of identity “ in Ukraine is indeed very strong in the last 8 years.
4% percent shift is between 1991 and 2001, change between 2012 and 2017 is much more drastic, especially in Southern and Eastern Ukraine.
Separatists in LDPR are defacto living in another country for 8 years, and have an identity of their own.
Also duh, people change nationality and ethnicity, I can tell by living in North Africa. But the question is for how long.
This article tells nothing new, and just overexaggerate what we know already. Also claiming that the 4% shift is the tipping point for Putin invading or not invading is weird, and that Putin got punked by that 4% shift?
Nah it is not good news and it is a challenge to have separatists in your country with allegiance to a neighboring country no matter how you look at it.
