He also doesn't seem to understand that marketing isn't usually planned or dropped in a day, this would be marketers reactions to what happened one to three weeks ago.
And this is also the stupidest thing you say publicly because marketers tend to follow other marketers, with confirmation from Musk that some are leaving, others will likely follow.

Im really waiting for the 4d chess move but if there is one it will take a while to see it. Maybe he really is trying to go all out with a conservative free speech social network? But even Fox News has to offer some level of brand safety and has had to fire people because of loss of advertisers, on top of which I don’t think the news division has as much revenue as twitter.
I read somewhere that a leveraged buy out (which the twitter purchase is) where the company takes on a lot of debt, mainly succeed when they slash costs and new development and increase profits from existing revenue streams. Twitter is doing the cost slashing, but being a free speech social network will reduce the revenue from advertising, adding features will add to costs.
Maybe he has some magic bunny to pull out of the hat - but its very well hidden.

Maybe he wants to run for president.
I'm pretty sure he would be ineligible.
He wasn’t born in the US, can’t.
And there he goes blaming the "enemies of free speech"

"They’re trying to destroy free speech in America."
Twitter: 16 years old
United States of America: 246 years old
Amazing that we went 230 years without free speech, right?

Unregulated social media platforms are inversely related to advertising revenue. 4Chan struggles to sell ad space while Facebook and YouTube generate a shit ton of ad revenue.
The reality is that Twitter makes money through ads and no other social media platform has found another way to monetize their platform using a different strategy.
As long as Twitter makes its money through ads, it has to be a place where companies feel comfortable placing ads. If Elon wants to ramp down its moderation and expose more risky content, they should expect some companies to pull out.
Just a few days ago Elon shared a wild and cartoonishly ridiculous conspiracy theory about Paul Pelosi. Advertisers don’t want their brands next to and associated with that sort of content. That’s advertising 101.
This is the free market at play, it's only business.

If you overly simplify politics to be a spectrum from left to right, most people (on left or right) can live with the 70% of views around the middle ground but are scared and repulsed by the 15% at the far ends. Advertisers don't want to be associated with it and don't want to risk being on a platform where the policy is unknown and could change depending on how Musk is feeling.
