The trouble with all these robots is how slow they move. They won't be futuristic to me until they are like Data and have superhuman speed and reflexes. A fight between two of these things would take hours. Robot fights should be beyond human perception.
We’re perfectly capable of making robots that move much faster, they’d just be batshit dangerous, bulky, and expensive. No ones ever wanted them, because of the risk of harming anyone who comes near it during development, let alone deployment. Even a few meters per second with those metal parts and hard edges is deadly. The software to make vision systems robust enough to make these robots even remotely safe have only existed for a decade at best and it’s still not a solved problem.
Hardware that carries that much momentum like CNCs are always fully enclosed with failsafes to keep shit from hitting the fan.

It just might fit into my garage, too ...
But I wonder how much it costs to maintain this mecha. Doubt I can do it with the tools that I have lying around.

I'm curious why robots are generally very slow. Is it because of the actuators being slow?
A robot's mass, therefore the energy required to move it, varies as the cube of its height. So given linear scaling of power with height, a giant robot is going to move more slowly than a human-sized one.
In order to have a giant robot that moves fast, we have to solve for how to store, transfer, and use the vast amounts of power needed. My favorite solution comes from Evangelion: tether the robots on giant extension cords.

I'm just saying in general. Even human sized robots generally move very slowly. Boston Dynamics is pretty quick now but for hand stuff it rotates super slow
Heinlein battlesuits could hurl nukes, yes ?
I'll wait for one of those.

A weapon to surpass Metal Gear?!
Well, not quite there yet, but close...

I mean, there was "Schwerer Gustav", a different kind of railgun
Now this is the future I was promised.
I’ll be expensing one.
