I checked out the docs and the getting started is really straightforward. I'm not a game dev, and understood immediately how things fit together because the API looks well-designed.
Is this mainly for plattformer game types?
And is it using something else for graphics and physics under the hood, or implements everthing itself?

I don't think you can swap bits out. When I used it things seemed baked in. Yes, mainly suited to 2D side or top down view games.

3001st major release? I guess it's not strictly following semver.

Bad design choice.
Pretty narrow so it's hard to touch and nothing indicates its function.

Very excited about this, I have the best memories of using Kaboom.
From the website: On 21 May 2024 we took the decision to create this spiritual successor of kaboom, being also a fork of it.
This was due to layoffs at replit (creators of Kaboom.js), and among those affected was the original creator of Kaboom. Prior to this the project was pretty much abandoned with no major releases for more than a year.
The idea is to expand what kaboom was under a new identity, kaplay itself is fully compatible with Kaboom.
