Twitter seems to think that the only source for this is Iran International, and there's been no corroboration, so take with a grain of salt.
Thanks. I will first take any twitter source with double amount of salt.
It was reported as fake news.
Someone taped a piece of paper to an ATM and suddenly its the largest cyber attack in history.
I don't see that even a real attack taking out every ATM in Iran would qualify as the largest anything in history. There aren't enough ATMs in the country.
The phrasing could be bad, given that it's a (likely) ESL source: they might mean it's one of the largest cyberattacks on Iran in history.
(I don't have a factual opinion on the claim, only that this phrasing interpretation seems possible to me.)

No mention of this on NYT/BBC/Guardian sites. Fake?

Wildly speculating - could this be a response to Iran trying to hack both presidential campaigns?

"Google says Iran-backed hacking group APT42 has targeted the Trump and Biden campaigns, as well as Israeli military, government, and diplomatic organizations"

That was my first thought. It's a clear signal from the US to stop interfering
I'm inclined to think that this must be a state sponsored attack, yet I wonder the about the value of pissing off the public. Seems like it would just help to galvanize support of the Iranian government.
They are denying it : Central Bank: No bank has been hacked According to Mashreq, the Central Bank Media's Twitter account wrote: Rumors of the enemy media to prevent the fall of the dollar / no system has been hacked. https://www.mashreghnews.ir/news/1633345/بانک-مرکزی-هیچ-بانک...
I could see a scenario where states like Israel could see a benefit to provoke. Impossible to say for sure but I can at least see a possibility.
The article certainly paints it in that light.
I also agree that it isn't clear to me how stealing information from private citizens would be a justified response for ongoing tensions in the region.
Not sure why you're downvoted.

Israel is doing anything it can to provoke a response from Iran- then it'll turn back to the West and demand more money, weapons and diplomatic support to "defend itself".
That cuts both ways. Iran has also doing plenty to provoke Israel, for years - though they mostly do it through proxies. (But chanting "Death to Israel" at the inauguration of their president? That is not a benign, neutral act.)
They do provoke each other, sure. However Israel is the only one that gets solidarity when the other hits back.
Btw, "death to" is a mistranslation- in Persian it just means "down with". The American comedy "Down with love" is translated in Iran as "death to love".

Did they also supply guns to a terrorist organisation in the comedy?
It's very clear that the "1st World" nations are adamant about destroying themselves by importing the third world, and it's also very clear that places like Russia, Israel, and China are not. Not to put the three in the same "bucket" or make them equal, but they are just some prime examples of countries that are valuing and defending themselves and their own citizens above others.
Until the day comes when my people, my culture, and my race are treated equally to others, that's the day I'll become a proud citizen of the "World" and Humanity. Until then, I'll fight for my own existence and my own people.

The source of this article is just two sentences from a Saudi-based outlet:

I don't find an Israeli source very convincing, given Iran is a belligerent in the 40 year proxy war against Israel.

I'm not an expert, but I know that regular people don't have accounts with the central bank, and I know central banks aren't responsible for operating ATMs. If there was a link between the two (eg.: interbank lending issues), it would need explaining, and I feel like it would be covered in financial news (Bloomberg, FT, etc).
There's either a lot of important detail missing, or this was written by someone who doesn't know how banking works.
